Area Sales Manager
Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As an Area Sales Manager at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a pivotal role in driving retail sales across the designated territories of Bihar and Jharkhand - Patna. Your responsibilities will encompass management of the complete E-T-B-R funnel, which includes generating customer enquiries, facilitating test drives, converting bookings, and achieving retail sales targets.
- Develop and implement strategic sales activation plans aimed at increasing enquiry generation from diverse sources while maintaining high quality and engagement levels.
- Ensure thorough monitoring and management of test drives to maximize conversion and provide excellent customer experience.
- Maintain integrity and accuracy of booking and Dealer Management System (DMS) data, ensuring authenticity and timely updates aligning with audit requirements.
- Work proactively to meet and exceed retail sales targets, focusing on maximizing the Vehicle Delivery Note (VDN) to retail ratio, optimizing sales conversion processes, and identifying areas for continual improvement.
- Forecast and plan sales activities on a rolling 'N' month basis to align with market demand and company objectives.
- Lead manpower productivity initiatives by identifying training and development needs, ensuring all team members are skilled, motivated, and engaged through carefully designed rewards and recognition programs.
- Champion the adherence to the sales story and brand messaging, enabling consistency and effectiveness in sales communication.
- Drive the adoption and integration of advanced digital tools such as Test Drive Anytime Anywhere (TDAA), Personal Voice Assistant (PVA), Bring Showroom Home (BSH), Virtual Reality (VR), and tablets to enhance customer engagement and improve conversion ratio (CVR).
- Monitor dealer working capital and aging stock diligently to ensure optimal stock turnover, reducing market outstanding receivables, and planning strategic liquidation of ageing inventory.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute marketing and sales activations effectively and ensure alignment with corporate goals.
This role demands a proactive and analytical approach to sales management, with a strong emphasis on digital innovation, team leadership, and strategic market understanding to drive sustainable business growth.

General Experience
Applicants should bring a minimum of 3 to 8 years of professional experience in sales, ideally within the automotive sector or related FMCG industries that demand high customer engagement and dynamic market responsiveness.
Experience should demonstrate a proven track record of achieving sales targets, managing sales teams, and driving customer satisfaction in a fast-paced and competitive environment.
Practical knowledge of sales planning, manpower development, dealer network management, and working capital optimisation will contribute significantly to success in this position.
Additional exposure to digital transformation initiatives and the ability to leverage technology for business growth is highly desirable.
Critical Experience
Critical experience includes a deep understanding of the automotive sales process coupled with comprehensive knowledge of market dynamics and consumer behaviour in this sector.
Strong expertise in managing end-to-end retail operations — from enquiry generation through to vehicle delivery and after-sales engagement — is essential.
You should have demonstrable skills in using digital sales tools and platforms to enhance customer experience and streamline sales operations, including but not limited to virtual reality demonstrations, online booking systems, and mobile-based sales applications.
Leadership competencies such as strategic business orientation, sustainability-driven decision making, innovation management, and customer-centric service delivery are critical to excelling in this role.
Experience in handling dealer working capital, inventory ageing analysis, and financial forecasting ensures effective business management and contributes to overall profitability.
Adeptness in team motivation, capability building, and maintaining high productivity through effective manpower management reflects your ability to sustain a high-performing sales team.
