Position Overview:

The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals as per the menu and dietary requirements in a college mess kitchen. This role involves maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety, while ensuring that students, staff, and faculty are provided with nutritious and delicious meals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals according to the menu, recipes, and dietary requirements. Ensure portion control and minimize food waste.
  • Menu Development: Assist in planning and developing menus that cater to the nutritional needs of students and staff. Provide input on meal variety and special dietary accommodations.
  • Quality Control: Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation. Conduct regular taste tests and make necessary adjustments.
  • Hygiene and Safety: Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment. Ensure all food is stored, handled, and prepared in a safe manner.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain kitchen equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Report any malfunctions or necessary repairs to the Kitchen Supervisor.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations. Provide training and guidance to junior kitchen staff as needed.
  • Compliance: Comply with all institutional policies, health regulations, and food safety standards. Stay updated on relevant regulations and best practices.


  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary certification or relevant vocational training preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in an institutional or large-scale kitchen.
  • Skills:Proficient in various cooking techniques and food preparation methods.
  • Skill in preparing meal in bulk quantity.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks.

Working Conditions:

  • Schedule: Full-time position with all day working for all meals. Especially Lunch, snacks, Dinner
  • Environment: Commercial kitchen setting with exposure to heat, humidity, and various kitchen equipment.
