CYLINDRICAL GRINDER

Job Summary

The Cylindrical Grinding Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating manual or CNC cylindrical grinding machines to shape, finish, and polish metal/non-metal workpieces to precise tolerances. This role involves grinding external diameters (OD), internal bores (ID), and tapered surfaces, ensuring parts meet exact engineering blueprints and quality standards. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Setup and Operation: Set up and operate external (OD) and internal (ID) cylindrical grinding machines, including mounting workpieces between centers, in chucks, or on fixtures.
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to determine dimensional tolerances and finish requirements.
• Wheel Selection & Dressing: Select appropriate grinding wheels based on material type and grind, and perform wheel dressing and balancing to maintain proper form and finish.
• Precision Machining: Perform rough and finish grinding on various parts (e.g., shafts, sleeves, bearings, impellers) to precise dimensions.
• Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, and dial indicators to ensure conformity.
• Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines, including checking coolant levels, oiling, and ensuring proper function of safety guards.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and address grinding issues such as improper surface finish, chatter marks, or size variations.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all shop safety rules, including wearing appropriate PPE (safety glasses, earplugs, steel-toed boots) and following 5S practices.
