Job Summary

The OT Assistant is responsible for supporting surgeons, nurses, and the medical team during surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, preparing instruments, and ensuring smooth workflow in the Operation Theatre. The role requires attention to detail, knowledge of sterile techniques, and the ability to work in high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare the Operation Theatre before each surgery (sterilization, equipment setup, instrument layout).

Assist surgeons and OT nurses during procedures by handling instruments.

Ensure all surgical instruments and materials are sterilized and ready for use.

Check and prepare OT equipment such as suction machines, monitors, lights, and tools.

Maintain cleanliness and aseptic conditions inside the OT.

Transfer and position patients on the operating table as instructed.

Manage surgical supplies and maintain stock levels.

Dispose of bio-medical waste as per hospital guidelines.

Assist in post-operative cleaning and reset the OT for the next surgery.

Maintain proper documentation of instrument usage and sterilization logs.

Requirements

Diploma/Certification in OT Technician/OT Assistant or relevant healthcare qualification.

Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, and OT protocols.

Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency and high-pressure situations.

Good physical stamina and ability to lift/assist patients.

Basic computer skills for maintaining records.

Strong teamwork, communication, and time-management skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience in a hospital Operation Theatre environment.

Knowledge of infection control procedures.

Ability to handle multiple surgeries and shift duties.
