Staff Nurse

Pre-Operative Duties

• Prepare the operating room and ensure all surgical instruments, consumables, and equipment are sterilized, functional, and ready for use.
• Check patient identity, surgical consent, and preoperative assessments.
• Assist in positioning and draping the patient for surgery.
• Ensure all required surgical sets and implants are available and accounted for.

Intra-Operative Duties

• Maintain strict aseptic technique and sterile field during surgery.
• Pass instruments, sutures, and other sterile items to the surgeon as required.
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs during the procedure.
• Count surgical instruments, needles, and sponges before, during, and after the procedure.
• Handle specimens safely and correctly label them for laboratory analysis.

Post-Operative Duties

• Assist in safe transfer of the patient from the operating table to the recovery area.
• Account for and clean surgical instruments and equipment after the procedure.
• Document intraoperative details and complete necessary records.
• Restock surgical trays and supplies as per department protocols.
