Job Description for VMC/HMC Operator (Experience Level: 3–6 years)

VMC / HMC Operator (3–6 Years Experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking skilled Vertical Machining Center (VMC) / Horizontal Machining Center (HMC) Operators with 3–6 years of hands-on experience in CNC machining. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating, setting, and maintaining CNC machines to produce precision components as per engineering drawings and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Machine Operation
• Operate VMC/HMC CNC machines efficiently and safely.
• Set up tools, fixtures, and workpieces according to job requirements.
• Load and unload raw materials and finished parts.
• Programming & Setup
• Interpret engineering drawings and CNC programs (Fanuc, Siemens, or similar controls).
• Perform program editing and offsets to achieve dimensional accuracy.
• Conduct first-piece inspection and validate setup before production run.
• Quality Assurance
• Use measuring instruments (Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, CMM if required).
• Ensure parts meet dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.
• Maintain records of inspection and production reports.
• Maintenance & Safety
• Perform routine machine maintenance and report abnormalities.
• Adhere to workplace safety standards and 5S practices.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the work area.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes (milling, drilling, tapping, boring).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T symbols.
• Hands-on experience with tool selection, fixture design, and machining parameters.
• Familiarity with CNC controls (Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.).
• Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot machining issues.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Qualifications

• Diploma / ITI in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 3–6 years of experience in CNC VMC/HMC operation.
• Exposure to precision machining industries (automotive, aerospace, heavy engineering preferred).
