Agile Release Train Engineer Lead

Total Experience: 10 to 16 Yrs

Relevant as RTE: 3 + Years

Scrum Master: 4+ Years

SAFe: 2+ Years

RTE level Roles and Responsibilities

1.ART Facilitation

  • Leads and serves as the highest authority on the implementation and optimization for the SAFe methodology within the ART
  • Lead the Agile Release Train (ART) by organizing and facilitating key Agile ceremonies, including PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshops.
  • Facilitate Scrum of Scrums (SoS), managing dependencies and risks across Agile teams.
  • Support teams in delivering high-value features in alignment with business objectives.

Facilitating PI Planning

Following activities need to be facilitated by the RTE:

  • Inspect and Adapt Meeting
  • Organize PI planning meetings, ensure smooth coordination between teams.
  • Management Review meeting
  • Conduct a Confidence vote and replanning if required.

Post PI Planning activities

  • Ensure all risks are captured, categorized, and tracked. Create an action plan to resolve/mitigate open risks/dependencies.
  • Data upload to Azure DevOps from PI Planning App.
  • Update Dashboard and Metrics to track the progress of the PI.

ART Sync Meetings

  • Facilitate regular Scrum of Scrums to track progress, manage dependencies, and escalate impediments.
  • Conduct Product Owner (PO) Syncs to align on feature delivery and discuss backlogs.
  • Ensure communication flow between teams and stakeholders.

2.Collaboration & Alignment:

  • Work closely with Product Management, System Architects, and Business Owners to align strategy and execution.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all ART stakeholders. - Communicates progress, status and challenges to stakeholders including senior management and ensures that business strategy and technology strategy are connected.
  • Manage cross-team dependencies, risks, and roadblocks to ensure timely delivery.
  • Foster collaboration between teams, product management, system architects and services.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts that impede the ARTs progress

Facilitate Backlog Refinement

  • Collaborate with Discovery Teams for Backlog Prioritization and Feature Readiness across all Release Trains/Value Streams.

Bucket allocation compliance

  • Ensure team picks features as per standard bucket allocation.

Facilitating PM/PO Sync

  • Conduct Product Owner (PO) Syncs to align on feature delivery and discuss backlogs and reprioritisation required.

Encourage and Track progressive Refinement

  • Work with all SMs to ensure progressive refinement are conducted on regular cadence and features are groomed in advance.

Dependency Tracking and Risk Management

  • Work with SMs across all the Trains to ensure dependencies and impediments are tracked and resolved on a timely basis and escalated if required.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts that impede the ARTs progress

3.Metrics & Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain metrics and reports using ADO and other tools to track progress, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous improvement at Project, Train and Team level.
  • Ensure transparency in execution and escalate risks to leadership when necessary.
  • Drive predictability and value delivery across the ART.

  • Feed the metrics data to the management and create data driven action item.

4.Agile Coaching & Continuous Improvement:

  • Mentor and coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Agile Teams in SAFe best practices.
  • Drive an empower the ART to self-organize and self-manage
  • Promote Lean-Agile principles and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Conduct retrospectives and feedback sessions to enhance Agile maturity
  • Continuously evaluate and refine Agile practices, making data-driven recommendations for enhancements and driving adoption of best practices.

5. Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure team adheres to SAFe guidelines and organizational standards.
  • Track and enforce mandatory compliance training for ART members.
  • Ensure that security, data privacy, and regulatory compliance are integrated into ART processes and deliverables.
  •  Ensure documentation of ART processes and outcomes to support audits and process reviews.

Organizational and departmental Compliance

  • Ensure that ART adheres to the organizational and departmental guidelines are followed by all Trains e.g. Tech Debt allocation, capacity planning, Iteration Demo etc.

Compliance Training

  • Ensure that security, data privacy, and regulatory compliance are integrated into ART processes and deliverables.

ISO Compliance

  • Work with SMs to ensure that ISO documents are tracked and updated on a regular basis.
  • Ensure documentation of ART processes and outcomes to support audits and process reviews.
