Job Description: Data Management Lead 

Position Summary 

The Data Management Lead will be responsible for driving the endtoend data management agenda, spanning data governance, data quality, master & reference data, metadata management, lineage, and controls. The role requires strong foundational knowledge of data management principles as well as the technical capability to design, implement, and scale data solutions across complex enterprise environments. 

This leader will partner with business, technology, operations, and governance teams to ensure data is trusted, wellstructured, compliant, and enables analytics, reporting, and digital transformation. 

Key Responsibilities 

1. Data Strategy & Governance 

• Lead the implementation of enterprise data management standards, frameworks, and policies. 

• Define and maintain data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models. 

• Partner with business and technology to embed governance practices into workflows and platforms. 

2. Data Quality Leadership 

• Establish and manage data quality rules, scoring, monitoring, and remediation processes. 

• Drive rootcause analysis for quality issues and oversee sustainable fixes. 

• Implement automated data validation, profiling, and reconciliation mechanisms. 

3. Metadata & Lineage Management 

• Lead design & maintenance of metadata repositories, business glossaries, and lineage mapping. 

• Ensure traceability from source to consumption (regulatory, analytics, finance). 

• Implement tools for automated lineage and cataloging. 

4. Technical Architecture & Implementation 

• Collaborate with engineering teams to design scalable data pipelines and architectures. 

• Provide technical leadership on data platforms (e.g., SQL, cloud data lakes, ETL/ELT tools). 

• Guide teams on MDM, data modeling, data virtualization, API-based data access, etc. 

• Evaluate and integrate data management tools (DQ engines, catalog, MDM platforms). 

5. Stakeholder Management & Delivery Oversight 

• Lead cross-functional forums to prioritize data initiatives and resolve blockers. 

• Work with program managers on timelines, resource planning, and delivery oversight. 

• Produce clear leadership updates on data risks, quality trends, and KPIs. 

6. Compliance, Risk & Controls 

• Ensure alignment with regulatory, audit, and internal control requirements. 

• Implement data retention, access management, and entitlements best practices. 

• Support regulatory deliverables requiring traceable and highquality data. 

Required Qualifications 

Foundational Knowledge 

• Deep understanding of data management principles (DAMADMBOK, DCAM, EDM frameworks). 

• Strong knowledge of data governance, quality, lineage, master data, and data lifecycle management. 

• Experience in financial services or similar highly regulated domains (preferred). 

Technical Skills 

• Strong SQL skills and comfort with querying, profiling, and validating large datasets. 

• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools (Informatica, Talend, DBT, Azure Data Factory, etc.). 

• Knowledge of data architecture concepts—data lakes, warehouses, modeling (3NF, dimensional). 

• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP). 

• Familiarity with automation using Python, APIs, and workflow orchestration tools. 

• Experience with DQ tools, catalog platforms, lineage/MET tools (Collibra, Alation, Data.world). 

Leadership & Soft Skills 

• Proven ability to lead crossfunctional teams, influence senior stakeholders, and drive outcomes. 

• Strong problemsolving mindset with focus on root cause and sustainable solutions. 

• Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical issues into business language. 

Preferred Experience 

• 10–12+ years in data management, governance, or data engineering roles. 

• Prior experience leading data quality, data governance, or MDM programs. 

• Exposure to regulatory reporting, finance data, risk data, or enterprise transformations.
