Cashier

A retail cashier processes customer transactions, operates the cash register or Point of Sale (POS) system, and collects payments, issuing receipts and handling cash, credit, and other forms of payment. Key duties also include maintaining a clean and organized checkout area, assisting customers with product information and questions, managing returns and exchanges, and balancing the cash drawer at the end of each shift. Success in this role requires strong customer service, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Customer Transactions:
• Accurately process sales by scanning items, confirming prices, and collecting payments via cash, credit, or mobile payments. 
• Payment Processing:
• Issue receipts, manage gift cards, coupons, and other promotional offers, and provide accurate change. 
• Customer Service:
• Greet customers warmly, answer questions about products, assist with locating items, and resolve complaints or concerns professionally. 
• Cash Management:
• Count and balance the cash register or cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure accuracy. 
• Returns and Exchanges:
• Process merchandise returns and exchanges according to store policies. 
• Store Operations:
• Maintain a tidy and organized checkout area and assist with other duties, such as restocking shelves or maintaining displays. 
• Promotional Activities:
• Inform customers about current promotions, loyalty programs, and new products to boost sales.
