Enterprise Java ESB Lead – Microservices, API Integration, & Cloud Security

Job Summary

Synechron is seeking a highly skilled Java ESB Lead to oversee the design, development, and deployment of enterprise service bus (ESB) solutions supporting complex system integrations. The role involves guiding technical teams to build scalable, secure, and high-performance integration architectures using tools like MuleSoft, WSO2, or Apache Camel. Your expertise will ensure seamless data and service flows aligned with organizational standards, supporting enterprise-wide digital transformation and governance initiatives.

Software Requirements

Required:

  • Extensive experience with Java (version 8+) for application and integration development (8+ years)

  • Strong expertise in ESB tools such as MuleSoft, WSO2, Apache Camel, or IBM Integration Bus (8+ years)

  • Proven ability to design and implement APIs, SOAP/REST services, and message-driven architectures

  • Hands-on experience with XML, JSON, SOAP, WSDL, and related standards supporting enterprise integrations

  • Familiarity with message queuing, service orchestration, and API management

  • Experience in cloud deployment environments supporting ESB solutions (preferred)

  • Version control proficiency: Git or Bitbucket

  • Knowledge of security standards: OAuth2, TLS, data encryption, and access control

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting cloud-native ESB solutions in AWS, Azure, or GCP

  • Knowledge of security policies and governance frameworks for enterprise integrations

  • Experience supporting enterprise data governance and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI DSS)

Overall Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design and implementation of enterprise service bus (ESB) solutions, including data and service integration flows

  • Guide and mentor development teams to build scalable, reusable, and secure integration components

  • Design, develop, and optimize API gateways, message brokers, and service orchestration workflows supporting business operations

  • Collaborate with enterprise architects, security teams, and business units to establish standards and best practices

  • Support system migration, upgrade, and deployment of ESB solutions on cloud or on-premise environments

  • Conduct performance tuning, troubleshoot service bottlenecks, and resolve complex integration issues

  • Ensure compliance with security, audit, and data governance standards in all integration solutions

  • Document architecture, integration design patterns, and security controls for operational and audit purposes

  • Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives

Technical Skills (By Category)

Programming Languages (Essential):

  • Java (version 8+) for application and integration development

  • Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or Shell for automation support (preferred)

Frameworks & Libraries:

  • ESB tools: MuleSoft, WSO2, Apache Camel, IBM Integration Bus

  • API management and security: OAuth2, WSDL, SOAP, REST

Data & Messaging Protocols:

  • XML, JSON, WSDL, SOAP, REST APIs

  • Message queuing: Kafka, RabbitMQ (preferred)

Cloud & Deployment:

  • Cloud deployment in AWS, Azure, or GCP supporting ESB solutions (preferred)

  • Containerization: Docker, orchestration: Kubernetes (preferred)

Security & Compliance:

  • Data encryption, access control, API security best practices supporting enterprise standards

Version Control & Automation:

  • Git, Bitbucket, CI/CD pipelines: Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar

Experience Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise ESB solutions supporting complex data and system integrations

  • Proven success leading system migration, upgrade, and deployment projects supporting large enterprise platforms

  • Extensive expertise in APIs, message-driven architectures, and cloud deployment environments (preferred)

  • Strong understanding of security standards, compliance frameworks, and enterprise governance in integration services

  • Experience supporting regulatory requirements such as GDPR, PCI DSS is a plus

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Architect, develop, and support enterprise service bus (ESB) solutions supporting mission-critical business processes

  • Design and implement API gateways, message queues, and service orchestration workflows

  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, end-to-end, within complex integration environments

  • Collaborate with architects, security, and operations teams to establish best practices and standards

  • Migrate, upgrade, and optimize deployment across cloud and on-premise environments

  • Monitor system health, performance, and security, and implement automation to enhance reliability

  • Lead incident resolution, root cause analysis, and performance enhancement initiatives

  • Create comprehensive documentation of architecture, data flows, and security policies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • 8+ years supporting enterprise-grade ESB and system integration solutions

  • Demonstrated expertise in Java, message-broker systems, and API design/support

  • Certifications in MuleSoft, WSO2, or cloud platform certifications (preferred)

  • Proven experience working with regulatory standards and enterprise security controls
