Lead Quality Engineer (Automation)-
Lead Quality Engineer (Automation)- Pune, India

As a Lead Quality Engineer (QE), you will drive automation strategy, lead technical implementation, and guide quality engineering best practices across digital applications. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure an “automation-first” culture and contribute to Western Union’s digital modernization.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Engineering Best Practices:-
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to QE engineers.
- Drive an “automation-first” approach across the release lifecycle.
- Conduct peer reviews, provide feedback, and upskill the team on automation patterns.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and architecture teams on quality strategy.
- Solid understanding of SDLC, STLC, and agile methodologies.
- Ability to drive shift-left testing through early automation.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across UI, mobile, and API layers.
- Zero Defect leakage to production
Test Planning & Execution:-
- Follow the QE test strategies, plans, and estimations for features and releases.
- Lead functional, regression, integration, and system testing activities.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
- Support production validation and participate in release readiness reviews.
- Application log analysis
- Focus more on Negative testing /edge cases /Corner Cases and increase negative test coverage
- Maintain Digital QE test coverage across platforms
Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation:-
- Track automation coverage, defect leakage, and quality metrics.
- Present quality dashboards, insights, and risks to Managers and Stakeholders.
- Maintain test documentation, framework guidelines, and coding standards.
Automation Framework / Strategy and implementation:-
- Drive and Ensure utilization of Automation for E1 country POD:
- Playwright for web UI automation
- Appium for iOS and Android mobile automation
- Karate for API, integration, and service-level automation
- Get the automated regression, smoke, and E2E test suites implemented for country Launch.
- Ensure frameworks align with engineering standards, code quality, and best practices.
CI/CD Integration & DevOps Collaboration:-
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
- Optimize pipeline execution for speed and reliability.
- Ensure quality gates and automated validations across stages of deployment.
Soft Skills:-
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
- Ability to lead without authority and influence technical decisions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
- Experience mentoring teams and facilitating technical discussions.
Role Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in leading a team and automation testing in Payments or Remittance domain.
- This role requires deep expertise in Playwright, Appium, and Karate, along with the ability to mentor QE engineers and influence quality across teams.
- Basic understanding of payout channels: bank account, wallet, card.
- Familiarity with remittance flows, partner APIs, and transaction lifecycle.
- Experience using Postman/Jira/Confluence (or equivalent).
- Strong attention to detail, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to follow processes and work under guidance of UAT Lead.
