At Smith+Nephew,we are building a high-impact data and analytics team to accelerate its digitization journey through a global, cloud-based Unified Data Platform (UDP) on Snowflake. We are seeking a Senior Data Service Delivery Manager (D&A – Managed Services & Data Operations) to lead day-to-day delivery of the platform via a managed services partner. The role is responsible for operational stability, SLA adherence, and end-to-end batch data operations across enterprise systems (including SAP and Dynamics AX), ensuring data quality, performance, and timely issue resolution. You will manage vendors, oversee defect remediation and enhancements, and work closely with architects, product owners, and stakeholders to continuously improve platform reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.

What will you be doing?

Managed Services & Operational Ownership

  • Act as the primary owner of day-to-day Managed Services delivery for the Unified Data Platform, ensuring batch jobs are completed within agreed SLAs and operational windows.
  • Oversee daily batch execution, monitoring, recovery, and escalation processes to ensure data availability for downstream reporting and analytics.
  • Take full ownership of ingestion issues across multiple source systems, coordinating resolution across vendors, internal IT teams, and business stakeholders.

Data Quality, Completeness & Accuracy

  • Ensure robust monitoring is in place for daily data completeness, validating that all expected data sets are successfully ingested.
  • Ensure ongoing data accuracy and reconciliation controls are executed, and lead to root-cause analysis and corrective actions when data issues are identified.
  • Partner with data quality, governance, and business teams to define and enforce data quality standards and operational controls.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve batch performance, enabling later ingestion start times and earlier data availability for reporting.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize batch runtimes, resource utilization, and operational efficiency across the ingestion landscape.
  • Recommend and prioritize improvements to existing pipelines to enhance stability, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Enhancements, Defects & Financial Governance

  • Oversee delivery of bug fixes and system enhancements on existing platforms.
  • Ensure enhancement estimates are accurate, delivery is controlled, and effort is managed within contractual monthly hours.
  • Monitor vendor productivity, quality, and consumption of contracted services, escalating variances where required.

Architecture & Strategic Initiatives

  • Lead a strategic review of the current orchestration framework, working closely with enterprise and solution architects.
  • Evaluate options to replace or modernize orchestration tooling in line with cost reduction, robustness, resilience, and performance improvement goals.
  • Ensure architectural decisions align with enterprise standards and long-term platform strategy.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Serve as a senior point of contact between business stakeholders, IT, architects, product owners, and Managed Services partners.
  • Lead outcome-focused discussions to ensure operational priorities align with business reporting needs.
  • Ensure clear communication, incident reporting, and engagement processes are in place for ongoing operational support.

Governance & Ways of Working

  • Identify and manage risks and issues related to operational delivery, timelines, quality, and vendor performance.
  • Ensure adherence to agreed governance, change, and release management processes.
  • Participate in communities of practice across data engineering, architecture, analytics, and project management.

What will you need to be successful?

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in quantitative field (statistics, engineering, business analytics, information systems, aviation management or related degree)
  • 10+ years of experience in a senior IT, data operations, or managed services leadership role, preferably within Life Sciences, Medical Devices, or similarly regulated environments.
  • Strong experience overseeing external Managed Services providers, including SLA management, financial governance, and performance accountability.
  • Proven expertise in enterprise data ingestion and batch processing, including source systems such as SAP and Microsoft Dynamics AX (Axapta).
  • Solid understanding of data orchestration tools such as AWS Step Functions, Apache Airflow, Dagster, or Control-M, and cloud-native platforms including Snowflake and AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience managing data quality, completeness, and reconciliation controls in a production analytics environment.
  • Strong governance experience covering estimation accuracy, scope control, risk management, and escalation.
  • Experience working in Agile / SCRUM environments, with hands-on use of tools such as JIRA.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate operational issues into business-impact discussions.
  • Strong leadership capability with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Self-starter able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, operationally critical environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus across technology and business teams, particularly during platform modernization and cloud transformation initiatives.
  • Positive, resilient mindset with a strong commitment to service quality, stability, and continuous improvement
