Job Summary

The Service Engineer is responsible for ensuring the effective maintenance, repair, and operational reliability of buses. The role involves preventive and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, coordinating with workshops and OEMs, and ensuring compliance with safety and statutory norms.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of buses to ensure maximum uptime.

Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.

Prepare and maintain maintenance schedules and service records for the fleet.

Coordinate with drivers to understand vehicle issues and ensure timely rectification.

Supervise workshop activities and ensure adherence to safety standards.

Liaise with OEM service teams, spare part vendors, and authorized workshops.

Ensure availability of critical spares and recommend inventory requirements.

Monitor fuel efficiency, breakdown trends, and maintenance costs.

Ensure buses comply with RTO, fitness, PUC, and statutory requirements.

Support breakdown assistance and emergency repairs as required.

Prepare maintenance reports and submit them to management.

Required Qualifications

Diploma / BE / BTech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering

ITI with relevant experience may also be considered

Experience

Minimum 2–5 years of experience in maintenance of buses or heavy commercial vehicles

Experience with school buses, staff buses, or fleet operations preferred

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of diesel engines and bus aggregates

Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Ability to read technical manuals and service bulletins

Good communication and coordination skills

Basic computer skills for report preparation

Willingness to work in shifts and handle emergency breakdowns

Preferred Attributes

Experience with multi-brand buses (Eicher, Tata, Ashok Leyland, etc.)

Knowledge of AMC and warranty management

Cost-control and preventive maintenance mindset
