Wireless Network SME

Role Summary

The Wireless Network SME is responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise wireless network infrastructure. This role requires deep expertise in Wi‑Fi technologies, RF design, network security, troubleshooting, and large‑scale wireless deployments. The SME will work closely with IT Operations, Network Engineering, Vendors, and Project Teams to ensure highly available, secure, and high‑performance wireless connectivity across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Architecture

  • Develop enterprise wireless network design and architecture based on business needs.
  • Perform RF planning, heat-mapping, and predictive surveys.
  • Evaluate and recommend wireless technologies, access points, controllers, antennas, and security frameworks.
  • Design WLAN solutions aligned with standards such as 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax (Wi‑Fi 6/6E).

2. Implementation & Deployment

  • Lead deployment, configuration, and tuning of wireless controllers and APs vendors like  Aruba, Cisco etc.
  • Integrate wireless networks with authentication platforms (Radius, ISE, ClearPass).
  • Ensure proper segmentation, QoS policies, and roaming optimization.
  • Develop and maintain wireless configuration standards and templates.

3. Operations & Support

  • Provide L3 technical support for complex wireless issues.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis for connectivity, performance, and interference problems.
  • Monitor and optimize WLAN performance using NMS tools (DNA Center, Aruba Airwave, Site24/7).
  • Maintain wireless security posture, including WPA3, certificate-based auth, and rogue device detection.

4. Site Surveys & RF Optimization

  • Perform pre‑deployment surveys, post‑deployment validation, and periodic RF audits.
  • Mitigate interference (RF, non‑Wi‑Fi sources), coverage gaps, and capacity bottlenecks.
  • Recommend AP placement based on user density, environment, and application workloads.

5. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain detailed network diagrams, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.
  • Create wireless playbooks for troubleshooting and operations.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate IT policies, regulatory standards, and security frameworks.

6. Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work with cross-functional teams on new office setups, infrastructure upgrades, and digital workplace initiatives.
  • Guide teams on Wi‑Fi best practices, onboarding, and application performance.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for strategic wireless initiatives and emerging technologies.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of 802.11 standards, RF fundamentals, wireless channel behavior, SNR, RSSI, and capacity planning.
  • Hands‑on experience with:
    • Aruba Mobility Controllers, Cisco WLC, Meraki Dashboard,
    • Ekahau/AirMagnet/Aruba for site surveys
    • Authentication systems: ClearPass, RADIUS, Cisco ISE.
    • Network security protocols (WPA/WPA2/WPA3, 802.1X)
  • Solid knowledge of LAN/WAN switching and routing (VLANs, STP, DHCP, DNS).
  • Experience with wireless monitoring tools and packet analyzers (Wireshark).

Soft Skills

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and documentation ability.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Client‑focused mindset with strong stakeholder management.

Experience

  • 7–12+ years of experience in wireless technologies.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale enterprise WLAN environments.
  • Experience in corporate, campus, warehouse, or high‑density environments (auditoriums, events, etc.) is a plus.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, IT, or related field.
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • Aruba ACMP / ACDP
    • Cisco CCNP Enterprise Wireless, CCIE Wireless (desired)

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with IoT wireless, BLE, location services, Wi‑Fi analytics.
  • Understanding of SD‑WAN and SD‑Access wireless integration.
  • Exposure to cloud-managed wireless platforms.
