Job Title: Control Room Operator

Department: Process department / Ferro Alloys unit

Location: Industrial Growth Centre, Industrial Road, Phase II, Siltara, Sondra, Chhattisgarh 493221

Reports To: Shift In-Charge / HOD


Job Purpose:To monitor, control, and optimize the operation of ferro alloy furnaces and associated equipment through the control room system (DCS/PLC/SCADA) to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production of ferro alloys as per quality and quantity targets.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Plant Operation & MonitoringOperate and monitor electric arc furnaces/submerged arc furnaces for Ferro Alloys (e.g., FeMn, SiMn, FeSi, etc.) using the control room interface.

  • Continuously monitor process parameters such as furnace temperature, power load, feed rates, gas flow, electrode position, and cooling systems.
  • Maintain optimal process conditions to achieve targeted production rates and energy efficiency.
  • Coordinate with field operators for manual adjustments, material feeding, and equipment inspections.
  • 2. Process Control & OptimizationAnalyze trends, alarms, and historical data to ensure stable furnace operation.
  • Adjust control parameters to maintain process balance and product quality.
  • Ensure timely execution of process changes as per operational instructions or production plan.
  • Monitor and control auxiliary systems — raw material handling, dust collection, gas cleaning, and tapping systems.
  • 3. Safety & ComplianceFollow all safety protocols, PPE usage, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Immediately report any abnormal conditions, deviations, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Participate in safety drills, risk assessments, and permit-to-work (PTW) procedures.
  • Ensure environmental compliance (emission levels, waste management, etc.) during operations.
  • 4. Communication & CoordinationMaintain close coordination with the shift in-charge, field operators, maintenance, and quality departments.
  • Log all process parameters, events, and observations in the shift logbook and digital systems.
  • Participate in shift handovers with detailed reports on furnace performance and pending actions.
  • 5. Troubleshooting & Maintenance SupportAssist in diagnosing process or equipment abnormalities through trend analysis.
  • Support maintenance teams during breakdowns or planned shutdowns by isolating and preparing equipment.
  • Report instrumentation or control loop issues promptly for corrective action.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):Furnace load factor and energy consumption per ton of alloy produced
  • Product yield and quality consistency
  • Plant uptime / availability
  • Safety incident frequency
  • Adherence to standard operating parameters
  • Qualifications & Experience:Education: Diploma / B.Tech in Metallurgy, Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Mechanical Engineering


Experience: 2–5 years (for Operator) or 5–10 years (for Senior Operator) in Ferro Alloys / Steel / Smelting operations


Technical Skills:

  • DCS / PLC / SCADA operation experience
  • Understanding of ferro alloy furnace process parameters
  • Basic knowledge of electrical load control, electrode regulation, and material handling systems
  • Behavioral Competencies:Strong situational awareness and decision-making under pressure
  • Teamwork and coordination skills
  • High attention to detail and adherence to safety standards
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Work Environment:Control room environment with periodic field visits
  • Shift-based working (rotational shifts including nights)
  • Exposure to high-temperature process areas and heavy industrial equipment
