Job Title: Blood Bank Counsellor

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Blood Bank Counsellor to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide essential, supportive, and confidential counseling to blood donors and, when necessary, guide sero-positive donors toward appropriate medical care. You will play a vital role in ensuring donor safety, retention, and compliance with government protocols, including managing the rare blood donor registry.

Key Responsibilities

• Donor Education & Support: Explain blood collection procedures to alleviate anxiety and educate potential donors.
• Pre/Post-Donation Counseling: Conduct counseling sessions covering the dos and don'ts of blood donation.
• TTI Counseling: Handle sensitive information regarding Transfusion Transmissible Infections (HIV/HBV/HCV/Syphilis), providing post-test counseling to donors.
• Referral Services: Refer reactive blood donors to local ICTC, STI, or liver clinics as per government policies.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of donor counselling, donor feedback, and update the blood donor registry.
• Promotion: Assist in organizing blood donation camps and promoting voluntary blood donation.
• Communication: Coordinate with patient relatives for apheresis or voluntary donors.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: Masters in Social Work (MSW), MSc in Psychology, or related field.
• Experience: Minimum 6 months of experience in a licensed blood center preferred.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills in English and regional language(s) to communicate effectively with donors.
• Knowledge: Understanding of blood safety, confidentiality (NACO guidelines), and counseling techniques.
• Attributes: Empathetic, calm under pressure, and professional.
