Job Description

Job Title: Microbiology ChemistDepartment: Quality Control / MicrobiologyLocation: Manufacturing UnitReports To: QC Manager / Quality HeadJob SummaryThe Microbiology Chemist will be responsible for performing microbiological testing of raw materials, finished products, water systems, and environmental samples to ensure compliance with pharmaceutical quality standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Key ResponsibilitiesPerform microbiological analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished pharmaceutical products.
  • Conduct sterility testing, microbial limit tests, and endotoxin testing as per pharmacopeial standards.
  • Perform environmental monitoring of clean rooms including air, surface, and personnel monitoring.
  • Monitor and test purified water and potable water systems.
  • Prepare and sterilize culture media and reagents.
  • Maintain and calibrate microbiology laboratory equipment such as autoclave, incubator, laminar airflow, and colony counter.
  • Document results in logbooks and laboratory records according to GMP and GLP guidelines.
  • Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) or contamination results and assist in root cause analysis.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and sterility of the microbiology lab.
  • Support internal and external audits, including regulatory inspections.
  • QualificationB.Sc / M.Sc in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences
  • Experience1–3 years experience in microbiology testing in a pharmaceutical manufacturing company preferred.
  • Skills RequiredKnowledge of GMP, GLP, and pharmaceutical microbiology testing
  • Experience in sterility testing, microbial limit testing, and environmental monitoring
  • Good documentation practices
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Additional RequirementsFamiliarity with IP, BP, and USP pharmacopeia methods
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
