Title: Supplier  Quality Engineer(Mechanical)

Work

Purpose & Scope of Job: To Ensure Supplier  Quality.

 

Essential

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supplier Quality Management

·        

Conduct supplier quality audits

(process audit & product audit) for sheet metal fabrication, welding, and

powder coating & plating vendors.

·        

Evaluate supplier capability, capacity

and special processes such as turret

punch press, laser cutting, bending, welding, powder coating, and trivalent

zinc plating.

·        

Perform in-process and final inspection

of fabricated and coated components at supplier location.

·        

Create audit reports, NCRs, 8D reports, and follow up for

closure of corrective / preventive actions.

·        

Monitor supplier quality performance

indicators (PPM, rejection trends, on-time closure of actions, and delivery

performance).

Inspection & Technical Capability

·        

Conduct dimensional inspection of sheet

metal and fabricated panels using CMM/Height Gauge/Caliper/Vernier/Gauge

tools.

·        

Inspect welded structures, interlocks,

assemblies & surface finish inspection (powder coating DFT, gloss, adhesion

test, impact test, salt spray test results).

·        

Perform plating quality checks such as

coating thickness, white/red rust corrosion checks, adhesion, and visual

evaluation.

·        

Review and interpret engineering

drawings and GD&T requirements for MV switchgear assemblies.

Cross Functional Coordination

·        

Coordinate with Purchase, In-house Quality, Production,

Service & Engineering for resolving supplier-related

concerns.

·        

Support new part development (NPD) and

PPAP documentation including FAI,

control plan, PFMEA, process validation, and sample

approval.

·        

Drive continuous improvement, cost

reduction & quality enhancement activities.

Documentation & Compliance

·        

Create and maintain supplier audit

reports, CAPA documents and inspection records.

·        

Ensure compliance with relevant

standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OSH) and internal quality procedures.

·        

Prepare monthly supplier performance

reviews and improvement plans.

Required

Skills

·        

Strong technical knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and machine

operations (turret punch press, bending machine, welding process

MIG/TIG/Spot).

·        

Understanding of powder coating process & test methods

(adhesion, impact test, DFT, corrosion resistance).

·        

Knowledge of plating operations (Trivalent zinc /

Nickel chrome) & corrosion testing.

·        

Strong drawing reading capability &

understanding of GD&T.

·        

Experience with quality tools: 5 Why, 8D, CAPA, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, MSA.

·        

Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems

& basic data analytics.

·        

Good communication, negotiation skills

& supplier management skills.

·        

Ability to travel for supplier audits

and field inspection.

 

Accountabilities:  To ensure Supplier  quality.

 

Authorities: Responsible for Supplier  Quality clearance for further processing.

Purpose & Scope of Job: To Ensure Supplier  Quality.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supplier

Quality Management

·        

Perform

supplier audits (process audit, product audit & system audit) for

electrical component vendors including wiring harness, copper busbars,

insulator/epoxy moulded items, drives, motors, switches, relays, contactors,

CT/PT & metering devices.

·        

Evaluate

supplier capability for electrical testing, insulation systems, wiring

processes and critical bought-out parts.

·        

Issue

NCRs, review supplier 8D reports, and follow up for timely closure of

corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

·        

Monitor

supplier performance through PPM, delivery rating, breakdown analysis and

improvement actions.

 

Technical

Inspection & Validation

·        

Conduct

incoming and supplier-end inspection of electrical items including wiring

harness, busbar fabrication, supports, and insulation materials.

·        

Review

and verify electrical parameters: insulation resistance, HV test, continuity

test, dielectric strength, short circuit withstand, temperature rise, torque

checks & contact resistance.

·        

Validate

electrical component qualification certificates & test reports such as type test reports, routine test

certificates & material conformance certificates.

·        

Support

PPAP activities including FAI,

validation report review, control plan & process validation trials.

 

 

Cross

Functional Coordination

·        

Work

closely with Purchase,

QA, Engineering, Production, and Service teams to resolve

field failures, warranty issues and supplier defects.

·        

Support

new vendor development and component localization projects.

·        

Provide

technical approval for supplier development, sample inspection and process

readiness.

Documentation

& Compliance

·        

Prepare

supplier audit reports, inspection records, and monthly performance

dashboards.

·        

Ensure

compliance with IEC/IS/ASTM standards relevant to MV switchgear components.

·        

Maintain

process documentation including checklists, master samples, NCR database, and

traceability records.

Required Skills & Competencies

·        

Strong

knowledge of MV/LV

Switchgear components including vacuum interrupters,

operating mechanisms, relays, contactors, CT/PT, insulators, copper busbars,

earthing systems & wiring.

·        

Proficiency

in electrical testing methods: IR,

HV, BDV, Contact Resistance, Torque testing, Heat Run tests.

·        

Understanding

of drawing reading (electrical GA, schematic diagrams, BOM, SLD).

·        

Familiarity

with quality tools: 8D,

Fishbone, 5 Why, PPAP, APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, CAPA.

·        

Good

analytical skills for problem solving, root cause analysis & data-based

decisions.

·        

Vendor

negotiation & technical communication skills.

·        

Willingness

to travel for supplier audits and inspection support.
