Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Food Technologist / Product Scientist to drive New Product Development (NPD) at Bechef. This role will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and scaling high-quality sauces, dips, gravies, and global flavor solutions tailored for retail and HoReCa segments.
The ideal candidate combines culinary creativity with scientific expertise, ensuring products meet sensory excellence, shelf stability, regulatory standards, and commercial viability.
- Key Responsibilities1. New Product Development (Core Focus)Develop innovative food products across global cuisines (Asian, Indian, fusion, etc.)
- Translate market trends and customer briefs into commercially viable products
- Conduct bench trials, recipe standardization, and process optimization
- Work on emulsions, oil-based systems, gravies, concentrates, and ready-to-eat formats
- Develop clean-label and cost-effective formulations
- 2. Product Optimization & Scale-UpScale recipes from lab to pilot to full production
- Ensure consistency in taste, texture, color, and shelf life
- Work closely with production teams for process validation and troubleshooting
- Optimize formulations for cost, yield, and efficiency
- 3. Shelf-Life & Stability StudiesDesign and conduct shelf-life studies (accelerated and real-time)
- Analyze product stability (microbial, chemical, physical parameters)
- Ensure packaging compatibility with formulations
- 4. Quality & Regulatory ComplianceEnsure compliance with FSSAI and other regulatory standards
- Maintain documentation for product specifications, SOPs, and batch records
- Support audits, certifications, and labeling requirements
- 5. Ingredient & Vendor DevelopmentEvaluate and approve new raw materials and ingredients
- Collaborate with procurement for sourcing innovative and cost-effective inputs
- Work on alternative ingredients and substitutions
- 6. Cross-Functional CollaborationCoordinate with marketing for product positioning and storytelling
- Support sales with technical presentations and product demos
- Work with QA/QC for product validation and consistency
- Required Skills & CompetenciesStrong understanding of food chemistry, emulsions, and flavor systems
- Expertise in sauces, dips, condiments, and ready gravies
- Knowledge of preservation techniques and shelf-life extension
- Hands-on experience in pilot trials and factory-scale production
- Strong sensory evaluation and product benchmarking skills
- Ability to balance innovation with cost and scalability
- Good documentation and analytical skills
