Job SummaryThe Purchase Manager is responsible for planning, sourcing, negotiating, and procuring raw materials, packaging materials, machinery spares, and services required for smooth plant operations. The role ensures cost control, quality compliance, timely availability of materials, and vendor management in line with production targets.

• Key Responsibilities
• Procurement Planning Prepare monthly and quarterly procurement plans based on production forecasts.
• Coordinate with Production, Stores, and Quality departments.
• Ensure uninterrupted supply of raw and packaging materials.

2️⃣ Raw & Packaging Material ProcurementResponsible for sourcing and purchasing:

• Preforms (PET)
• Caps & closures
• Labels & shrink films
• Cartons & corrugated boxes
• Chemicals for water treatment (RO membranes, antiscalants, cleaning chemicals)
• Bottles (if buying ready-made)
• Jar caps & handles (20L jars)
• Stretch film for dispatch
• 3️⃣ Vendor Development & ManagementIdentify and develop new suppliers.
• Evaluate vendors on price, quality, and delivery performance.
• Conduct price negotiations and finalize contracts.
• Maintain approved vendor list.
• 4️⃣ Cost Control & NegotiationAchieve annual cost reduction targets.
• Compare quotations (minimum 3 vendors).
• Prepare comparative statements (CS).
• Negotiate credit terms and bulk discounts.
• 5️⃣ Inventory Control CoordinationMonitor minimum and maximum stock levels.
• Avoid overstocking and stock-outs.
• Coordinate with stores for slow-moving items.
• 6️⃣ Compliance & Quality CoordinationEnsure materials comply with food safety standards.
• Coordinate with QA for vendor quality approvals.
• Maintain documentation for audits (FSSAI / ISO / HACCP if applicable).
• 7️⃣ Machinery & Maintenance PurchasesProcure spare parts for:
• RO Plant
• Blowing machine
• Filling machine
• Labeling machine
• Shrink wrapping machine
• Coordinate urgent breakdown purchases.
• 8️⃣ Documentation & ReportingMaintain purchase orders (POs).
• Track pending orders.
• Prepare monthly purchase reports.
• Monitor price trends (especially PET resin rates).
• Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Material availability rate (%)
• Cost savings achieved
• Inventory turnover ratio
• On-time delivery from vendors
• Reduction in emergency purchases
• Payment cycle management
• Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Commerce / Business / Supply Chain / Engineering.
• 5–10 years experience in manufacturing procurement.
• Experience in FMCG or packaged drinking water industry preferred.
• Required SkillsStrong negotiation skills
• Vendor management
• Cost analysis
• Knowledge of packaging materials
• ERP knowledge (SAP / Tally / other)
• Good coordination & communication skills
• Authority Level Approve purchases up to defined financial limit.
• Finalize vendors within company policy.
• Recommend rate contracts.
