Job Description
Job Title: Restaurant CaptainAbout the RoleThe Restaurant Captain is responsible for supervising the dining area, ensuring excellent guest service, maintaining service standards, and coordinating with staff to deliver a smooth and memorable dining experience. The Captain acts as the link between guests, service staff, and the kitchen.
- Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Service & ExperienceGreet and welcome guests, escort them to tables, and ensure comfort.
- Take orders accurately and ensure timely food and beverage service.
- Handle special requests, dietary needs, and guest complaints professionally.
- Maintain a high standard of hospitality and personalized service.
- Floor SupervisionOversee daily restaurant operations during the shift.
- Ensure all tables, service stations, and dining areas are clean and well-presented.
- Coordinate service flow between kitchen and service team.
- Monitor table turnover, seating arrangements, and reservation management.
- Team CoordinationAssign tasks to servers, stewards, and support staff.
- Train and guide team members on service etiquette, upselling, and guest handling.
- Conduct briefing sessions before shift to communicate menu updates, specials, and SOPs.
- Menu Knowledge & UpsellingMaintain complete knowledge of the menu, ingredients, portion sizes, and preparation styles.
- Promote daily specials and upsell dishes and beverages.
- Assist guests with recommendations based on their preferences.
- Quality & ComplianceEnsure adherence to restaurant policies, hygiene standards, and safety guidelines.
- Perform regular checks on service equipment, cutlery, serving trays, and table settings.
- Work closely with kitchen and bar teams to maintain accuracy in orders.
- Requirements2–5+ years of experience in a hospitality/service role.
- Prior experience as a Captain/Head Waiter in a restaurant or hotel is preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, and guest-handling skills.
- Knowledge of Indian, South Indian, and Kerala cuisine is an advantage (can customize for Kerala Café).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage peak hours efficiently.
