Job Title: Medical Billing & Coding Trainer

Job Summary

The Medical Billing & Coding Trainer is responsible for educating, mentoring, and supporting learners in medical billing, coding, and reimbursement processes. This role ensures trainees gain the technical knowledge, compliance awareness, and practical skills required to accurately code medical services and process claim in accordance with current regulations and payer guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver training programs on medical billing and coding (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and reimbursement methodologies).
• Conduct classroom training sessions for students.
• Develop and update training materials, lesson plans, presentations, assessments, and reference guides.
• Educate learners on healthcare compliance, HIPAA, CMS regulations, payer policies, and fraud/abuse prevention.
• Provide hands-on instruction using practice management systems, EHRs, and coding software.
• Evaluate learner performance through exams, audits, and practical exercises; provide feedback and remediation.
• Stay current with coding updates, annual code changes, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
• Support certification preparation (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCA) when applicable.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Active professional coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCA, RHIT, or RHIA).
• 2+ years of hands-on experience in medical billing and/or coding.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and reimbursement workflows.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and instructional skills.
• Ability to explain complex concepts clearly to diverse learners.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience.
• Experience in multiple specialties (e.g., E/M, surgery, outpatient, inpatient).
• Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS).
• Additional certifications (CPB, CPC-I, or specialty credentials).
