Roles and Responsibilities:

Prime Responsibility: To draw Blood for the required tests as per Standard Operating procedures of the Laboratory.

Job Role:

1. Identifying the patient and explaining the procedure to the patients

2. Taking consent of the patient for the procedure and explaining about the documents if any

3. Generating the Barcodes for the samples to be collected

4. Drawing the blood in the correct vacutainers

5. Giving Instructions about post procedure care

6. Centrifuging blood samples as per NABL protocols

7. Packing samples in room, ambient and frozen conditions, as per sample requirement

8. Handover of the samples to logistics for transportations to processing centers

9. Follow-up on sample acceptance at processing centre

10. Follow-up on reporting status with departments (bio-chemistry, hematology etc) for any delays

11. Follow-up with patients in case of resampling

12. Collect other extra vascular samples as per SOP

13. Ensure patient privacy and comfort is maintained

14. Support front office in cases of doubts with test menu

15. Guide patients for additional tests post sample collection

16. Maintain Stock of consumables

17. Ensure all mandatory consent and test requisition forms for specific tests are filled and filed properly. Example HIV and etc

18. Maintain proper temperature of sample collection area, record temperature in log book

19. Maintain temperature of sample storage refrigerator, record temperature in log book

20. Maintain log of double pokes it any

21. Trainee is not authorized to operate independently, all the tasks should be performed in the presence of experienced technician
