Job Description

Senior Team Manager – Energy & Industrials, Expert Content

Position summary

The Senior Team Manager leads the Energy & Industrials Expert Content team and is accountable for its portfolio direction, research quality, talent development and delivery. The role converts market and client demand into coverage priorities, assigns topic ownership across sub-sector and asset-class subject matter experts, manages capacity, and develops the team’s sector expertise, ideation, research judgment and interviewing capabilities.

The role requires deep knowledge of Energy & Industrials, working knowledge of adjacent sectors, a broad understanding of relevant asset classes and strong investor-oriented judgment. The Senior Team Manager interprets earnings calls, management commentary, analyst questions and market developments; connects insights across the team’s work; and uses that perspective to originate differentiated research concepts, synthesis products and selected expert conversations.

Location: Gurugram, India

Key responsibilities:

Coverage strategy and prioritization

  • Set and maintain the coverage roadmap for the Energy & Industrials team, including priority coverage areas, companies, themes, recurring programs and known gaps.
  • Translate global Expert Content strategy and priorities, content viewership and usage trends, client and Sales feedback, regional demand and market developments into coverage priorities, format choices, capacity decisions and an appropriate geographic balance across APAC, the United States and other priority markets.
  • Identify cross-company themes, divergent views, emerging risks and content gaps, connecting macro and sector developments to company-level and investment implications.
  • Challenge the team to pursue original angles beyond familiar companies, topics and approaches, and determine primary and supporting ownership when sub-sector, asset-class, geographic or thematic expertise overlaps.

Team leadership and capability building

  • Lead, coach and performance-manage the team’s sub-sector and asset-class subject matter experts, and provide research direction and quality calibration for Associates supporting the team.
  • Assign ownership of individual topics and manage work queues, capacity, delivery cadence and escalations across the team.
  • Lead regular sector discussions that surface new signals, test interpretations, generate content ideas and build the team’s collective expertise.
  • Review research plans, expert profiles, interview questions and completed transcripts; observe selected interviews; and coach research approach, sector judgment and interviewing technique.
  • Build a shared understanding of quality, insight and investor value through transcript calibration, direct feedback and structured coaching that strengthen execution and judgment across the team’s subject matter experts (SMEs).

Research innovation, synthesis and quality

  • Originate differentiated research concepts, conversation structures, recurring series and synthesis formats; work with relevant internal partners to turn viable ideas into clear research objectives, required expert perspectives and execution plans.
  • Produce and review sector-level and thematic research that connects insights across multiple expert interviews, companies and perspectives, presenting a more comprehensive view of what the collective evidence may indicate without making investment recommendations.
  • Use AI tools and effective prompts to accelerate synthesis and drafting while independently validating the underlying evidence, adding context and strengthening the final analysis.
  • Personally conduct or moderate selected high-value expert conversations where senior sector experience can materially improve the depth, originality or integration of the insights generated.
  • Set standards for expert fit, question design, interview execution and research quality; coach interviewers to listen actively, adapt beyond prepared questions and pursue valuable unanticipated lines of inquiry.
  • Use performance data and recurring quality or workflow issues to identify coverage gaps, guide coaching and improve research practices, templates and processes; ensure recurring insights and effective research approaches are documented and applied across future coverage, and that all work meets established quality, confidentiality and compliance requirements.

Required qualifications

  • 10–13 years of relevant experience in buy-side investment research, equity or credit research, strategy consulting, corporate strategy, transaction advisory or a comparable research leadership role.
  • Demonstrated depth within Energy & Industrials, including its major industries and value chains, combined with working knowledge of adjacent sectors, relevant asset classes and broader market dynamics.
  • Experience serving institutional investors or another sophisticated financial audience, with a strong understanding of how investors frame decisions and uncertainty.
  • Ability to synthesize earnings calls, market developments and primary research into themes, risks, differentiated research concepts and decision-useful outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to originate differentiated research concepts; translate them into clear objectives, expert profiles and interview structures; and frame incisive, investor-relevant questions.
  • People leadership and coaching experience, including facilitating thoughtful team discussion and strengthening SMEs’ research judgment, capabilities and performance.
  • Credible live-interviewing capability and the ability to coach others in active listening, probing, real-time adaptation and moderation technique.
  • Strong written and verbal English, research judgment and operating discipline to convert strategy into priorities, quality controls and measurable delivery.
  • Strong working knowledge of financial statements, operating drivers and valuation context sufficient to evaluate investor-relevant research across Energy & Industrials.
  • Strong interest in financial markets, company and industry analysis, and business dynamics, with the curiosity and discipline to maintain deep sector expertise and relevant cross-sector and asset-class awareness.
  • Comfort using AI-enabled research tools and developing effective prompts to accelerate synthesis, drafting and workflow without substituting for human judgment.

Preferred qualifications

  • A track record of establishing or scaling research teams, coverage models, quality standards, training programs or knowledge repositories.
  • Experience integrating equity, credit, private-market or other relevant investor perspectives into sector research.
  • Experience in expert networks or scaled primary research; MBA, CFA, CA or a relevant advanced qualification.
