Senior IT Technologist - IT Digital Event Streaming Lead

A Day in the Life

Implement and optimize Kafka-based event streaming platforms that enable real-time data integration across digital manufacturing applications. Architect scalable event-driven solutions for data ingestion, processing, and distribution across cloud, edge and on-premises environments. Partner with application, data, infrastructure and cybersecurity teams to drive seamless integration and interoperability across the Science & Technology and Operations OI IT portfolio. Establish platform governance, observability, security and performance standards to ensure resilience, scalability, availability and data integrity while enabling real-time analytics, automation, AI/ML and continuous improvement.

 
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Lead the implementation and lifecycle management of digital transformation event streaming platforms to enable real-time data integration for Science & Technology + Operation Innovation IT applications.

  • Manage end-to-end event-driven streaming architecture across ingestion, processing, and distribution layers to support scalable, event-driven applications. For Science & Technology + Operation Innovation IT Portfolio.

  • Develop patterns, standards, and reusable frameworks for event ingestion, processing, transformation, and distribution.

  • Partner with application, data, and infrastructure teams to integrate Kafka / Streaming -based solutions across cloud and on-prem environments.

  • Define and implement governance, (Topic, schema, retention, security) observability, monitoring, alerting and performance optimization practices to ensure high availability, resilience, and data integrity.

  • Enable real-time analytics, automation, and system interoperability by advancing event-driven architecture across plan, build, and run operations ensuring performance optimisation and capacity planning.

  • Perform and document testing and maintenance of system updates, modifications, and configurations.

  • Act as a technical liaison with key technology vendor technologists or other business functions.

  • Ability to document detailed technical system specifications based on business system requirements.


Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant experience with event streaming platforms, data integration technologies, or enterprise middleware solutions.

  • Deep understanding of designing, implementing, and supporting Confluent Kafka-based event streaming platforms in large-scale enterprise environments.

  • Experience developing and managing event-driven architectures, including real-time data ingestion, processing, integration, and distribution patterns

  • Experience supporting cloud, edge and on-premises environments and integrating applications, data platforms, and infrastructure services across hybrid technology ecosystems.

  • Experience implementing security controls including TLS, mTLS, RBAC, service authentication, and secrets management.

  • Experience monitoring platform performance, troubleshooting production issues, implementing governance standards, and ensuring high availability, resilience, and data integrity for enterprise integration platforms.

  • Experience supporting regulated manufacturing, pharmaceutical, medical device, or other controlled environments is preferred. 

  • Experience supporting high-availability, disaster recovery, and multi-region deployments.                                                                                                                      

Nice to Have Experience:                                                               

  • Hands-on experience with Confluent Cloud or Confluent Platform, including Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, Kafka Streams, ksqlDB, and cluster administration.

  • Experience integrating industrial protocols and platforms such as MQTT, HiveMQ, OPC UA, Ignition, Kepware, MES, SCADA, historians, or IIoT edge solutions.

  • Experience with AWS services, Databricks, Snowflake, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or other cloud-native and container platforms supporting streaming workloads.

  • Proficiency in Java, Python, or Node.js and experience developing REST APIs, stream-processing applications, or reusable event-integration components.

  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code and GitOps/CI/CD practices using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Helm, or automated deployment pipelines.

  • Experience with observability tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana, Elastic, or similar platforms for metrics, logs, distributed tracing, alerting, and capacity planning.

  • Knowledge of data modeling, schema evolution, data lineage, time-series data management, streaming analytics, and data quality practices.

  • Experience designing secure edge-to-cloud communications, device identity, certificate lifecycle management, encryption, Zero Trust principles, and IT/OT network segmentation.

  • Experience supporting global, multi-site manufacturing deployments and coordinating production releases, incident response, problem management, and transition to managed services.

  • Relevant certifications in Confluent Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, cloud architecture, security, or IT service management are preferred.
