Principal IT Asset Management Analyst

We are seeking a Principal IT Asset Management Analyst to join our newly established IT Asset Management team. This role provides senior subject matter expertise across software asset governance, compliance, cost optimization, and audit readiness, working as part of a broader team of experienced ITAM professionals.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Oracle and Microsoft licensing providing comprehensive licensing coverage for all Oracle and Microsoft software assets, products, agreements, deployment models, and applicable cloud use rights within Clarivate. They will serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on complex software entitlements, vendor negotiations, and audit readiness.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape the Software Asset Management practice within a newly formed ITAM team. You will have a direct hand in building the strategic roadmap, operating model, processes, tooling, controls, and capability development needed to establish a scalable enterprise function. The role will apply its Oracle and Microsoft expertise across the complete publisher portfolios while working with senior peers to develop consistent methods, controls, and governance across the wider software estate.

 

About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments…

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of direct experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, software licensing, or a related governance discipline, with demonstrated responsibility for complex enterprise licensing outcomes.
• Deep expertise across the Oracle licensing portfolio, including Oracle Database, middleware, applications, Java, options and management packs, Named User Plus and Processor licensing, virtualization and partitioning considerations, support policies, and applicable on-premises and cloud use rights.
• Strong expertise across the Microsoft licensing portfolio, including SQL Server, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform, Visual Studio, System Center, Client Access Licenses, online services, Enterprise Agreements, Software Assurance, subscription and user/device licensing, virtualization and mobility rights, disaster recovery, and Azure Hybrid Benefit.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting complex software agreements and translating contractual rights, restrictions, and commercial terms into Effective License Positions, technical controls, risk assessments, and actionable recommendations.
• Experience leading complex Oracle and Microsoft audits, license reviews, renewals, or true-up activities, including evidence preparation, stakeholder coordination, risk assessment, and remediation planning.
• Demonstrated experience contributing to the design or maturity of SAM governance, policies, controls, operating practices, reporting cadences, and evidence standards within a complex organization.
• Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise SAM/ITAM platform, such as ServiceNow SAM Pro, Snow License Manager, Flexera, or a comparable platform, together with an understanding of discovery, normalization, entitlement, usage, and CMDB data.
• Strong analytical capability, including advanced Excel skills and experience validating complex contractual, entitlement, deployment, configuration, usage, and financial data.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex licensing risks, commercial implications, and recommendations clearly to technical, commercial, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, exercise sound judgement in ambiguous situations, and influence decisions across Technology, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and other relevant functions.

 

It would be great if you also had

·       IAITAM Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM), Certified IT Asset Manager (CITAM), or an equivalent recognised ITAM or SAM certification.

·       Microsoft licensing certification or formal Microsoft commercial licensing training.

·       Oracle licensing training or demonstrated experience managing Oracle enterprise licensing programs, support renewals, or audit engagements.

·       ITIL 4 Foundation certification.

·       Familiarity with ISO/IEC 19770 standards and their practical application to SAM governance, controls, and evidence management.

·       Experience with ServiceNow CMDB and enterprise discovery or inventory sources, such as MECM/SCCM, ServiceNow Discovery, or Tanium.

·       Experience using Power BI or a comparable business intelligence platform to produce leadership reporting and decision support.

·       Experience supporting strategic vendor negotiations using validated consumption data, demand forecasts, commercial scenarios, and licensing risk analysis.

·       Experience with additional Tier 1 publishers, such as IBM, SAP, Adobe, or VMware/Broadcom

·       Working knowledge of SQL, PowerShell, or comparable data analysis and automation techniques.

 

What will you be doing in this role?...

License Management & Compliance

• Manage the end-to-end software asset lifecycle: planning, acquisition, deployment, monitoring, optimization, and retirement
• Maintain accurate entitlement records and audit-defensible Effective License Positions by reconciling contractual rights, deployments, configurations, usage, financial records, and discovery/CMDB data.
• Serve as a senior licensing subject matter expert with complete coverage of all Oracle and Microsoft software assets, products, agreements, licensing models, deployment environments, and applicable cloud use rights within Clarivate
  • Provide comprehensive Oracle licensing expertise across the enterprise portfolio, including Oracle Database, middleware, applications, Java, options and management packs, Named User Plus and Processor licensing, feature usage, virtualization and partitioning, support obligations, and on-premises and cloud use rights.
  • Provide comprehensive Microsoft licensing expertise across the enterprise portfolio, including SQL Server, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform, Visual Studio, System Center, Client Access Licenses, online services, Enterprise Agreements, Software Assurance, subscription and user/device licensing, virtualization and mobility rights, disaster recovery, and Azure Hybrid Benefit.
• Identify and lead the remediation of compliance gaps, unlicensed use, surplus entitlements, and high-risk configurations, working with ITAM colleagues and accountable technology owners to address root causes and implement sustainable controls.
• Lead Oracle and Microsoft vendor audits and license reviews, including scope validation, evidence preparation, internal coordination, response governance, risk assessment, and remediation planning.
• Provide expert licensing assessments for architecture and technology decisions, including cloud adoption, migrations, virtualization or cluster changes, disaster recovery design, database consolidation, end-user licensing, and platform modernization.
• Apply consistent methods, controls, and evidence standards across the Oracle and Microsoft portfolios, prioritizing activity according to financial materiality, renewal timelines, compliance exposure, and optimization opportunity.

Cost Optimization & Vendor Management

• Lead and contribute to optimization initiatives across the Oracle and Microsoft portfolios, including license harvesting, reclamation, subscription optimization, edition right-sizing, deployment rationalization, cloud benefit utilization, and licensing model optimization 
• Support and influence Oracle and Microsoft contract negotiations and renewals through validated usage baselines, forecasts, commercial scenarios, and clear assessments of cost and licensing risk 
• Partner with Procurement and Finance on Oracle and Microsoft enterprise licensing motions, including Microsoft Enterprise Agreement activities, Oracle agreement and support renewals, true-ups, subscription changes, renewals, and new license acquisitions 
• Maintain traceability between contractual rights, entitlement records, financial data, and deployed consumption to support defensible commercial decisions 
• Contribute specialist input to the publisher roadmaps for Oracle and Microsoft license management, including agreement governance, renewal readiness, compliance priorities, and portfolio optimization 
• Measure and report realized savings, cost avoidance, risk reduction, and optimization value using methods agreed with ITAM leadership, Procurement, and Finance.

ITAM Strategy & Governance

• Serve as a senior escalation point for complex Oracle and Microsoft licensing matters and provide evidence-based recommendations on material commercial, technical, and compliance decisions.
• Lead assigned ITAM maturity initiatives by assessing current-state gaps, recommending improvements, and strengthening governance across the Oracle and Microsoft portfolios.
• Contribute to the shared design and stewardship of the ITAM operating model, including policies, controls, governance forums, capability development, role interfaces, and service measures.

Tooling, Reporting & Process

• Provide senior subject matter input into the use and evolution of the organization’s ITAM/SAM platform and supporting data sources, ensuring they support complete Oracle and Microsoft publisher coverage.
• Establish and maintain appropriate publisher data requirements for entitlements, software normalization, discovery, usage, contracts, and CMDB information, and lead remediation where data weaknesses affect licensing decisions.
• Develop dashboards and reporting on Oracle and Microsoft compliance posture, license consumption, spend versus entitlement, renewal readiness, optimization progress, data quality, and material risk.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of SAM policies, procedures, controls, evidence standards, and workflows aligned with ISO/IEC 19770 and ITIL practices.
• Establish and operate repeatable cadences for publisher baselines, Effective License Position updates, audit readiness, renewal planning, control reviews, assumptions management, and evidence retention.
• Identify opportunities to improve the scale, efficiency, and reliability of SAM activities through automation, standard templates, and integration of relevant enterprise data sources.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with stakeholders across Technology, Infrastructure, DBA, Cloud, Security, Legal, Procurement, Finance, and Internal Audit to align Oracle and Microsoft license management with business and technology priorities.
• Influence software sourcing, architecture, deployment, cloud, and renewal decisions by clearly explaining the commercial, operational, contractual, and compliance implications of available options.
• Prepare and present licensing risks, optimization opportunities, and recommendations to leadership and relevant governance forums, working with the Manager, ITAM, the ITAM Director, and other senior specialists as appropriate.
• Build stakeholder understanding of licensing requirements and required controls by translating complex contractual and technical information into clear, actionable guidance.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, and knowledge sharing to ITAM colleagues and business partners, while collaborating with other P4 and P5 specialists to build collective capability across the function.

 

Hours of Work

Full Time, Shift Timing 2-11 PM
