Job Title: Associate – Payroll Control

Location: Bangalore, India

Role Description

The Associate, Payroll Control, is responsible for supporting the governance, risk, control, compliance, and oversight framework for payroll operations across assigned countries and entities. The role will partner closely with Payroll Operations, HR, Finance, Tax, Technology, and external vendors to ensure payroll processes are executed accurately, compliantly, and in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.

Your key responsibilities

Payroll Controls

  • Execute and maintain payroll processes and control frameworks.
  • Review payroll inputs, outputs, reconciliations, exceptions, and approvals to ensure compliance with established controls.
  • Support payroll risk assessments and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
  • Monitor payroll performance metrics and identify opportunities for control enhancements.

Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Ensure adherence to statutory, tax, labour, social security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Track legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll operations.
  • Support implementation of regulatory changes and compliance initiatives.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and evidence repositories.

Risk Management & Audit Support

  • Support internal and external payroll audits.
  • Coordinate remediation and closure of audit findings.
  • Perform periodic control reviews and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Escalate significant risks, control gaps, and compliance issues appropriately.

Vendor Governance

  • Monitor payroll vendor performance against agreed SLAs and KPIs.
  • Support governance reviews with payroll providers and third-party partners.
  • Assist in issue resolution, root cause analysis, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure vendor activities comply with internal governance requirements.

Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with HR, Finance, Tax, Compliance, and Technology teams.
  • Support preparation of governance reports, dashboards, and leadership updates.
  • Participate in governance committees, operational reviews, and stakeholder discussions.
  • Provide guidance on payroll controls and compliance requirements.

Continuous Improvement & Transformation

  • Identify opportunities to standardize, simplify, and automate payroll processes.
  • Support payroll transformation, migration, and technology initiatives.
  • Drive operational excellence and best practice adoption across payroll activities.
  • Participate in projects related to payroll modernization and process optimization.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related discipline.
  • 10-15 years of experience in Payroll Operations, Payroll Governance, HR Shared Services, Compliance, Audit, or related functions.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, controls, taxation, social security, and labour regulations.
  • Experience in multinational or shared services environments preferred.
  • Experience working with payroll vendors and outsourced delivery models is desirable.

Your skills and experience

  • Suitable accounting degree required with 6-10  years of post-qualification experience in core Payroll accounting and related regulatory compliances.

  • Hands-on experience in ERPs such as SAP, Workday etc.

  • BFSI experience preferred.

  • Good written and oral communication skills
