Impact & Contribution:

As a Staff Platform Engineer – SAP, you will be a senior technical leader within the Core Banking Platform Crew part of Retail Technology, responsible for shaping the future of the SAP Core Banking platform. You will provide deep expertise across SAP Basis, SAP HANA, AWS Cloud and Platform Engineering practices while leading critical upgrade, migration, resilience and operational initiatives. This role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, platform ownership and people leadership to ensure one of Australia's most critical banking workloads remains secure, resilient and fit for the future.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and ownership of SAP Platform Engineering, SAP Basis, SAP HANA, and AWS-hosted SAP environments, driving platform strategy, modernization, resilience, cloud transformation, and operational excellence.
  • Lead the design, implementation, upgrade, migration, and ongoing management of enterprise SAP landscapes, including SAP upgrades, enhancement packs, support packs, kernel upgrades, add-on installations, SSL certificate management, system refreshes, and migrations using SUM, DMO, and ZDO.
  • Drive SAP HANA engineering and database administration initiatives, including installations, SPS/revision and Cockpit upgrades, HANA System Replication (HSR), high availability and disaster recovery solutions, Scale-Up/Scale-Out deployments, performance tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, and database optimization.
  • Manage and optimize SAP workloads on AWS Cloud and Red Hat Linux platforms, leveraging services such as EC2, EBS, EFS, FSx, Cloud Storage, BACKINT, and Pacemaker clusters, while enhancing scalability, resilience, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Provide leadership for L3 production support and service management, overseeing incident, major incident, problem, change, release, and service transition activities, while driving root cause analysis, platform recovery, and SLA compliance.
  • Champion reliability engineering, observability, and automation practices, implementing monitoring, telemetry, alerting, dashboards, predictive monitoring, self-healing capabilities, and continuous improvements to enhance platform stability and performance.
  • Drive DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, and platform standardization initiatives, utilizing technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, GitHub, and cloud-native automation frameworks to reduce operational effort and improve operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, engineering teams, vendors, and managed service providers, leading technical reviews, architecture discussions, governance forums, and mentoring geographically distributed teams to deliver reliable and scalable platform outcomes.

Essential Skills:

  • 12+ years of hands-on SAP Basis and SAP HANA experience supporting large-scale enterprise SAP environments.
  • Strong leadership experience across Engineering, Operations and DevOps functions.
  • Deep expertise in:
    • SAP Basis Administration
    • SAP HANA Administration
    • Scale-Up & Scale-Out Architectures
    • High Availability & Disaster Recovery
    • SAP Upgrades and Migrations
    • AWS Cloud Operations
    • Linux Administration (RHEL & SUSE)
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex SAP cloud transformation programs.
  • Proven experience managing production support and critical business platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Operational Readiness
  • Experience managing and mentoring engineering teams and technical specialists.

Education Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology.
