We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer – SAP ABAP & Solution Architecture who can combine deep SAP technical expertise with strong architecture and engineering leadership to help shape our future SAP ecosystem.

The Position

As a Lead Engineer – SAP ABAP & Solution Architecture, you will provide technical leadership across SAP application development and solution architecture.

You will design scalable SAP solutions, guide ABAP engineering standards, support S/4HANA transformation, and work closely with functional, integration, platform, security, and product teams.

The role requires a strong hands-on understanding of ABAP/ABAP OO, S/4HANA, CDS Views, OData, APIs, integrations, SAP BTP, Fiori and modern SAP development practices.

You will also help drive adoption of AI-assisted engineering, automation, clean-core principles, and modern development practices across the SAP landscape.

Key Responsibilities

SAP Architecture & Solution Design

• Lead technical architecture and solution design across SAP applications and integrations.
• Translate business and functional requirements into scalable SAP technical solutions.
• Define architecture standards and technical design principles for S/4HANA and associated SAP platforms.
• Drive clean-core principles, reducing unnecessary customisation and promoting extensions using appropriate SAP technologies.
• Review solution designs and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, performance and integration standards.
• Provide technical direction for complex SAP transformation and modernisation initiatives.

SAP ABAP Engineering

• Lead development and engineering across ABAP, ABAP Objects, CDS Views, AMDP, RFC/BAPI, IDoc, OData and APIs.
• Drive high-quality development standards covering performance, scalability, maintainability, security and reusability.
• Guide technical design, code reviews, troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
• Support custom-code remediation and modernisation as part of ECC-to-S/4HANA transformation.
• Promote reusable frameworks, engineering standards and development best practices.
• Provide guidance on enhancements, interfaces, conversions, workflows, forms and application extensions.

 

AI-Enabled SAP Engineering

• Drive adoption of AI and Generative AI capabilities within the SAP engineering lifecycle.
• Explore the use of tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot and enterprise AI platforms to improve developer productivity.
• Identify opportunities for AI-assisted code development, documentation, testing, troubleshooting and technical analysis.
• Ensure AI technologies are adopted responsibly and in accordance with enterprise security and governance requirements.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to SAP engineers and developers.
• Establish architecture, development and code-quality standards.
• Conduct architecture reviews, technical design reviews and engineering governance.
• Collaborate closely with SAP Functional, Basis, Integration, Security, Cloud, Data and Product teams.
• Engage with business and technology stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Support major SAP transformation programmes and influence technology decisions across the SAP landscape.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Deep technical experience in SAP ABAP and SAP solution architecture.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of ABAP Objects, CDS Views, OData, APIs and modern S/4HANA development approaches.
• Strong understanding of SAP S/4HANA architecture and transformation.
• Experience designing enterprise-scale solutions across multiple SAP modules and integrated systems.
• Understanding of SAP BTP, Fiori and modern SAP extension approaches.
• Experience with SAP integration patterns and technologies.
• Strong understanding of clean-core architecture and reducing unnecessary SAP customisation.
• Experience with CI/CD, automation and modern engineering practices.
• Exposure to AI/Generative AI-enabled software engineering practices is desirable.
• Strong technical leadership and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for technical and business stakeholders.

 

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
• 12–18 years of SAP technical experience, with substantial experience in ABAP engineering and SAP technical/solution architecture.
• Expert-level knowledge of SAP ABAP, ABAP Objects and S/4HANA development.
• Strong experience with CDS Views, OData, APIs, RFC/BAPI, IDocs and SAP integration patterns.
• Experience with modern SAP development technologies such as RAP, Fiori and SAP BTP.
• Demonstrated experience designing solutions for large-scale SAP ECC and/or S/4HANA environments.
• Strong experience with ECC-to-S/4HANA transformation, custom-code remediation and application modernisation.
• Understanding of SAP security, authorisation, performance and development governance.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD and automated deployment/testing practices is desirable.
• Experience integrating SAP with cloud, SaaS and enterprise applications.
• Exposure to AI/Generative AI tools for software engineering is an advantage.
• Strong problem-solving, architecture, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience leading technical teams and influencing architecture decisions across complex enterprise environments.
