Job Description

Role Overview

Design, build, and support mission-critical mainframe applications powering high-volume core banking transactions. Drive reliability, performance, and integration of legacy systems within a modern, API-driven enterprise ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop & enhance COBOL/CICS/DB2/JCL applications for core banking, payments, settlements, and reporting
• Maintain 24x7 production systems, ensuring stability in high-throughput environments
• Optimize DB2 performance (complex queries, indexing, stored procedures) to improve response time and scalability
• Troubleshoot production issues using Abend-AID, XPEDITER; perform root cause analysis and permanent fixes
• Automate batch pipelines using JCL and REXX; manage batch recovery and restart strategies
• Collaborate with distributed teams to enable API-led integration and modernization initiatives
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior engineers

Mandatory Technical Skills

• Core: COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL (hands-on development)
• DB2 Expertise: Query optimization, stored procedures, performance tuning
• Batch Processing: Job control, scheduling, recovery handling
• Debugging: Abend-AID, XPEDITER
• Systems: High-volume transaction processing, regulatory reporting

Tools & Ecosystem

• Scheduling: Control-M, CA7
• Release Mgmt: Endevor, ChangeMan
• Data Tools: File-AID

Domain Expertise (Critical)

• Banking/Financial Services (payments lifecycle, settlements)
• Regulatory reporting systems
• High-availability, mission-critical environments

Experience

• 7–10 years in mainframe development
• Proven experience in large-scale banking systems handling high transaction volumes

• Exposure to z/OS Connect, MQ, REST APIs
• Knowledge of DevOps practices in mainframe environments
