Computer Hardware Engineering Technician

Job SummaryThe Computer Hardware and Network Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting an organization's computer hardware systems, local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and related IT infrastructure. This role ensures optimal system performance, high availability, network security, and minimal downtime for organizational operations.

• Core ResponsibilitiesHardware Installation & Maintenance:
• 
  
• Assemble, configure, and deploy desktop computers, laptops, servers, printers, and peripheral devices.
• 
  
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hardware failures, component defects, and system bottlenecks.
• 
  
• Perform routine hardware upgrades, including RAM, storage (SSD/HDD), motherboard replacements, and firmware updates.
• 
  
• Network Architecture & Management:
• 
  
• Set up, configure, and maintain network hardware, including routers, switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi access points, and cabling systems.
• 
  
• Monitor network performance, connectivity, and traffic flow to ensure optimal bandwidth utilization and zero unexpected downtime.
• 
  
• Implement and maintain VPNs, VLANs, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP protocol configurations.
• 
  
• System Security & Data Protection:
• 
  
• Implement network security measures, including firewall configurations, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and access control policies.
• 
  
• Install and update antivirus software, malware detection protocols, and network patch management.
• 
  
• Manage data backup systems, disaster recovery protocols, and routine data restoration tests.
• 
  
• Technical Support & Documentation:
• 
  
• Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 technical support for hardware and network-related issues escalated by helpdesk staff.
• 
  
• Maintain precise documentation of network topology, hardware inventory, IP address allocations, and maintenance logs.
• 
  
• Vendor management for hardware procurement, equipment warranties, and internet service provider (ISP) escalations.

• Qualifications & RequirementsCategoryRequirementEducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent diploma/work experience).Experience2–5 years of hands-on experience in computer hardware troubleshooting, network administration, and systems infrastructure.Technical Skills• Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI model, routing/switching, and wireless networking.• Proficiency with Windows, macOS, and Linux OS setup and administration.• Hands-on experience with Cisco, MikroTik, Ubiquiti, or Fortinet networking hardware.• Diagnostic skills for PC/server architecture and network cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, fiber optics).Certifications (Preferred)Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, or Microsoft Certified: Systems Administrator (MCSA).Soft SkillsStrong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsCapability to lift heavy IT equipment (servers, UPS units, large displays up to 40 lbs).
