Sr. Engineer – Product Electrical Design & Validation (BESS)

ROLE PURPOSE

Own the electrical design for all the BESS products offered by the company: validate every schematic, wiring diagram and protection component before it goes to production, and keep the design correct, safe and IEC and UL certifiable as it evolves.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design validation

•     Review and validate the container and rack electrical design: DC schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, busbar sizing and short-circuit withstand.

•     Verify selection and ratings of DC fuses, disconnect switches/MSDs, contactors, pre-charge circuits, breakers, SPDs and insulation monitoring.

•     Check protection coordination between cell, rack, container and PCS levels, including BMS trip logic and interlocks.

•     Review auxiliary power distribution (chiller, HVAC, fire, BMS, UPS) and control wiring.

Compliance and testing

•     Check the design against IEC 62619, IEC 63056, UL 9540A, IS 16270, CEA regulations and certification-body requirements, and issue design validation reports.

•     Lead electrical DFMEA, prepare verification test plans and support prototype builds, hipot/insulation and functional testing.

Design control

•     Maintain wiring diagrams, electrical BOMs and drawing revisions; issue ECNs and update manufacturing work instructions.

•     Coordinate specifications with cell, BMS, PCS and component vendors, and technically evaluate their offers.

REQUIREMENTS

•     B.E./B.Tech Electrical or Electronics with 5-10 years in electrical design of battery packs, BESS, EV, UPS or LV switchgear products.

•     Strong grounding in DC systems: fuse and contactor selection, arc and short-circuit behaviour, cable/busbar ampacity, earthing and insulation.

•     Proficient in EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical; able to read and correct schematics and wiring diagrams quickly.

•     Working knowledge of IEC 62619, IEC 61439 and UL 9540A.

•     Hands-on with testing and fault-finding on the shop floor.

PREFERRED

•     Has taken a battery or power-electronics product through third-party certification.

•     Exposure to BMS integration and CAN/Modbus interfaces.
