Job Description - MELD - Food Runner - Front of House

An Overview:

We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented, and reliable Food Runner to join our Front of House team at MELD, our hyper traceable bakehouse & restaurant. In this crucial role, you will bridge the kitchen/bakehouse and dining room, ensuring dishes, artisanal baked goods, and beverages are delivered swiftly, accurately, and at optimal temperature to guests. You will play a key role in communicating farm-to-table traceability stories, supporting floor operations, and maintaining seamless pass management in a fast-paced environment.

Core Responsibilities

Food Delivery & Guest Hospitality Support

●    Deliver dishes, artisanal baked goods, and beverages promptly and accurately from the pass to guest tables across the dining room.

●    Articulate basic farm-to-table traceability details, farm origins, and menu components concisely to guests upon serving.

●    Maintain order presentation standards, ensuring table setup and dish placement strictly match MELD's visual and culinary standards.

Pass Management & Kitchen/Floor Coordination

●    Monitor the kitchen pass and bakehouse output closely, ensuring continuous flow and heat management for outgoing orders.

●    Collaborate with line cooks, bakers, hosts, and servers to ensure proper table pacing and timing between courses.

●    Communicate table statuses, order modifications, or delay alerts effectively between kitchen and front-of-house staff.

Floor Service & Dining Room Maintenance

●    Support floor servers by assisting with water service, clearing empty plates/glassware, and resetting tables between seatings.

●    Maintain clean, organized food runner stations, pass areas, tray setups, and condiment displays throughout service.

●    Assist with opening and closing operational checklists, floor cleanliness, and dining room ambiance maintenance.

Front of House Inventory & Station Upkeep

●    Keep trays, tray stands, food covers, cutlery drawers, and service stations fully stocked and sanitized.

●    Ensure proper handling and care of chinaware, glassware, and serving utensils according to health and safety standards.

●    Assist with regular counts of service items and report missing or damaged operating supplies to management.

Additional Operational Responsibilities

●    Ensure strict compliance with health, food safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines at the pass and on the dining floor.

●    Immediately address and clean up spills, maintaining a spotless pass area and dining room floor throughout service.

●    Promptly report guest feedback, order discrepancies, or equipment maintenance needs to the Head Server or Floor Manager.

Required Qualifications

●    0-2 years of experience in a restaurant, bakehouse, or hospitality environment; entry-level candidates with strong motivation are encouraged to apply.

●    Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills with a team-first mindset.

●    Passion for sustainable food systems, farm-fresh produce, and high-quality artisanal hospitality.

●    Outstanding physical stamina, speed, and balance to carry heavy trays and navigate a busy dining room safely over long shifts.

●    High attention to detail, punctuality, and calm under high-volume pressure.
