Junior Anaesthetist

The Junior Anaesthetist will assist the senior anaesthesia team in providing safe and effective anaesthetic care to patients undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures. The role involves pre-operative assessment, peri-operative patient monitoring, administration of anaesthesia under appropriate supervision, post-operative care, and participation in emergency and critical-care services.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-operative assessment and review patients' medical history, investigations, allergies, medications, and anaesthetic risk.
• Assist in developing and implementing appropriate anaesthesia plans under the supervision of a senior anaesthetist.
• Administer general, regional, and local anaesthesia as permitted by training, competency, and hospital protocols.
• Establish and maintain intravenous access and assist with airway management, including intubation and extubation.
• Monitor patients continuously during procedures, including ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, capnography, temperature, and other relevant parameters.
• Recognize and promptly manage peri-operative complications and emergencies under senior supervision.
• Assist with resuscitation and emergency procedures, including basic and advanced life-support measures as appropriate.
• Provide post-operative monitoring and pain management in the recovery area.
• Participate in acute pain management and advise on appropriate analgesic techniques under supervision.
• Maintain accurate anaesthesia records, medication charts, consent documentation, and patient notes.
• Ensure safe preparation, checking, handling, and administration of anaesthetic drugs and equipment.
• Check and maintain anaesthesia machines, airway equipment, monitors, emergency drugs, and resuscitation equipment.
• Follow infection-control, patient-safety, medication-safety, and hospital policies at all times.
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, nursing staff, intensivists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in on-call, emergency, and night-duty services as required.
• Attend departmental meetings, clinical audits, teaching sessions, and continuing professional-development activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional, ethical, and compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification recognized by the relevant medical authority.
• Postgraduate qualification/training in Anaesthesiology (MD/DNB/Diploma) preferred or as required for the position.
• Valid medical registration with the appropriate medical council.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Life Support (ALS/ACLS) certification may be preferred.
