The Business Analyst (BA) works alongside the business process leads (BPLs) and IT application development teams; translating business requirements and creating detailed functional specifications; assisting in the design of and supporting the implementation of software applications.  The BA will participate in blueprinting and design sessions with business and technical leads to specify the solution at a detailed functional level and to help the BPLs evaluate the proposed technical solution that meets the business requirements.   

Requirements Engineering & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Requirement Gathering: Collaborate directly with Business Process Leads to gather high-level business requirements, documenting all findings, decisions, and process flows in alignment with established standards and templates.

• Client Alignment: Maintain an advanced understanding of client needs, proactively providing context and strategic input to help shape, refine, and modify project deliverables.

• Expectation Management: Interact regularly with cross-functional clients and management, leveraging strong communication skills to influence expectations, build consensus, and drive alignment.

Solution Design & Agile Enablement

• Strategic Translation: Translate business requirements into clear solution options, presenting playbacks to business leads and offering viable alternatives to help the Agile delivery team realize its strategic goals.

• Impact & Integration Analysis: Leverage an in-depth understanding of end-to-end business processes to analyze integration touchpoints, ensuring the proposed system design fully meets business needs.

• Functional Deliverables: Develop comprehensive requirement artifacts, including detailed functional specification documents, use cases, business process diagrams (swim lanes), user interface storyboards/mockups, and data conversion specifications.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Development, QA, and testing teams to conceptualize, clarify, and refine requirements and application functionalities throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Decision Support & Subject Matter Expertise (SME)

• Option Evaluation: Evaluate and compare multiple courses of action, providing data-driven recommendations and structured decision-making support to leadership.

• Defect vs. Enhancement Validation: Serve as the functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) for application capabilities, utilizing this expertise to triage system issues and validate whether a reported item is a system defect or a new feature enhancement.

Project Ownership & Delivery

• End-to-End Delivery: Take ownership of specific workstreams within larger programs, managing them through to successful completion.

• Strategic Contributions: Actively participate in and support practice-wide strategic initiatives and special projects as assigned by leadership.

Process Transformation & Continuous Improvement

• Operational Efficiency: Proactively identify gaps, bottlenecks, or redundancies in existing processes, and design targeted transformation or continuous improvement activities to drive operational efficiency.

• Analysis & Problem Solving: Drive key business analysis activities, including evaluating application functionality, defining system alternatives, and conducting structured root-cause analyses to address operational pain points.

• Strategic Decision Support: Compare and evaluate alternative courses of action, providing data-driven recommendations to support leadership during key decision-making processes.

Leadership & Practice Enablement

• Practice Support: Partner with leadership to facilitate internal practice activities, developing executive-ready presentations and drafting clear, impactful communications for the team.

Involvement with test preparation and execution 

• End-to-End Traceability: Establish and maintain strict traceability from initial business requirements through to final test case execution, ensuring all functional needs are fully validated.

• Testing Team Enablement: Partner closely with the User Acceptance Testing and QA teams, providing deep functional guidance and system context to facilitate comprehensive test planning and preparation.

• Test Artifact Quality Assurance: Review, refine, and validate test cases, test scenarios, and automated/manual test scripts to confirm they accurately cover all business rules, edge cases, and functional specifications.

• UAT & Validation Support: Assist in validating that execution results meet the defined acceptance criteria, ensuring a high-quality, defect-free deployment.

Technical Skills

• Tools & Platforms: Proficient in Microsoft Azure DevOps and the complete MS Office Suite (Visio, Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint).

• Design Acumen: Advanced understanding of software design principles and system usability standards.

• Degree: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (preferably in software development, computer science, or information systems discipline).

• Certifications: Business Analyst Certification (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA) is highly preferred.
