At AstraZeneca, we 're dedicated to being a Great Place to Work.

Introduction to role:

Are you ready to lead a high-visibility programming team that turns complex clinical data into decisions that change outcomes for patients in cardiovascular, renal and metabolism? Do you want your expertise to be seen and heard across global studies, shaping the end deliverables that move our medicines forward?

In this senior role, you will lead and develop a team of programmers, guiding delivery across a moderate-scope drug program or multiple smaller projects. You will be the go-to expert for programming strategy, partnering closely with statisticians, clinicians and data leaders to raise standards, accelerate execution and ensure every line of code stands up to regulatory scrutiny.

  • Strategic Resourcing and Capacity: Translate business needs into actionable resourcing plans; provide capacity input across studies, recruit for critical skills and retain talent through targeted development.
  • Program Delivery and Technical Ownership: Lead implementation of statistical programming for protocols and clinical development programs; serve as a subject matter expert for the therapy area, project or function to resolve complex issues and guide technical decisions.
  • Quality, Standards and Automation: Own quality and compliance for programming deliverables, holding internal teams and external partners accountable; drive standards development, measure adherence to data standards and automation, and embed consistent practices.
  • External Partnerships: Manage Contract Research Organisations and contracting staff to deliver on time, to scope and to the highest quality, calling out and mitigating risks in complicated or novel situations.
  • Cross-Functional Influence and Continuous Improvement: Represent Programming leadership in cross-functional settings; influence stakeholders with clear, evidence-based recommendations; lead or contribute to process improvements, best of industry practices, training and mentorship that lift quality, efficiency and effectiveness across the function.
  • Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) and Compliance: Operate in line with the agreed SHE strategy by managing risks, incidents, reporting and follow-up; champion compliant ways of working in a regulated setting.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Degree in Mathematics (i.e., Applied Math, Engineering, etc), Statistics, Computer Science, Life Science, or equivalent experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the clinical development process
  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and proven ability to lead teams towards a common goal
  • Demonstrated planning and organisational skill
  • Ability to influence relevant stakeholders and global teams
  • Ability to develop individuals
  • Ability to manage risk in complicated or novel situations
  • Current knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements relevant to the role
  • Project mentality

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience implementing business processes
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Experience in problem solving and conflict resolution skills
