Job Description – AI Backend Engineer (Python, FastAPI & LLM)

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled AI Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Python, FastAPI, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to build scalable, event-driven microservices and AI-powered applications. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience designing AI agents, prompt engineering, AWS cloud services, and modern backend architectures. This role involves building production-grade AI services, integrating with enterprise systems, and delivering reliable, observable, and secure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Python/FastAPI microservices following scalable, event-driven architecture principles.

• Build and manage REST APIs, business logic, event publishing, error handling, and automated unit tests.

• Develop AI-powered solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs) and AWS Bedrock AgentCore.

• Design prompts, agent workflows, tool/function calling, structured outputs, and fallback mechanisms for AI applications.

• Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and knowledge-grounded AI solutions.

• Integrate AI services with enterprise systems using REST APIs and asynchronous event-driven workflows.

• Build services using AWS EventBridge, Lambda, ECS Fargate, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and related AWS services.

• Ensure system reliability through structured logging, monitoring, and observability, including model versioning, confidence scores, token usage, and AI decision tracking.

• Develop and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, indexing strategies, and database performance.

• Implement automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end AI solutions and participate in integration testing.

• Contribute to prompt evaluation, AI model improvements, and production readiness.

Required Skills

• 4–6 years of backend development experience using Python .

• Strong hands-on experience with FastAPI or similar asynchronous Python frameworks.

• Experience designing and developing LLM-based applications .

• Strong understanding of Prompt Engineering , Agent Design , Function/Tool Calling , and RAG architectures .

• Experience with AWS Bedrock AgentCore or similar AI agent platforms.

• Hands-on experience with AWS services including:

  • EventBridge

  • ECS Fargate

  • Lambda

  • API Gateway

  • RDS PostgreSQL

  • DynamoDB

• Strong understanding of event-driven architectures, including:

  • Idempotency

  • At-least-once delivery

  • Dead-letter queues

  • Saga patterns

• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL schema design, constraints, and indexing.

• Experience designing RESTful APIs and asynchronous programming.

• Experience with automated testing using PyTest or equivalent frameworks.

• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices.

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code , Cursor , GitHub Copilot , or similar.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in Healthcare domain (EDI 270/271, 837/835 transactions, Medicaid workflows).

• Experience with LangSmith, PromptFlow, or other prompt evaluation frameworks.

• Knowledge of AWS Kinesis Data Streams.

• Experience with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.

• Experience with Pulumi or Infrastructure-as-Code.

• Familiarity with Redshift Serverless, Redis, and multi-AZ AWS deployments.

• Experience with Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.
