Database Technology Lead - Oracle, PL/SQL & Legacy Modernization

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Database Engineer.

In this role, you will:

• Lead complex or critical database management initiatives that typically involve multiple disciplines and business groups, including database architecture, design, integration and data modeling
• Provide the highest technical expertise for the planning, research, design implementation, maintenance, and control of server class databases
• Review and analyze complex database technologies that require in depth evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles or unprecedented factors
• Design and certify next generation database technologies
• Assist in database installations, including troubleshooting and problem resolution
• Recommend improvements to web application processing issues and design
• Consult with multiple client groups to provide strategic solutions, influencing long range internal and enterprise level database architecture and management strategies
• Provide technical leadership and recommendation into the future direction of database technology
• Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in investment performance, brokerage, wealth management, or financial-services data.
• Strong experience leading Database Engineering projects within large organizations, including significant hands-on Oracle experience.
• Experience with large data sets, transactional platforms, or a combination of both
• Knowledgeable in programming or scripting language using Oracle, PL/SQL, SQL loaders and Perl scripts.
• Strong technical and task/timeline-oriented skills necessary to ensure projects are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
• Advanced SQL and PL/SQL skills, including stored procedures, performance tuning, indexing, execution-plan analysis, and high-volume batch processing.
• Experience modernizing legacy database workloads and supporting old and new platforms concurrently.
• Working knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, or Spring Batch and the ability to collaborate effectively with application engineering teams.
• Strong knowledge of data migration, source-to-target mapping, reconciliation, parallel runs, and cutover planning.
• Experience with SQL Loader, flat-file ingestion, staging tables, and scheduled batch environments.

Job Expectations:

• Provide technical leadership for BAU operations, including nightly batch monitoring, incident triage, production recovery, root-cause analysis, and database performance tuning.
• Preserve the accuracy and precision of TWR, MWR/IRR, fee-adjusted returns, multi-period metrics, and benchmark calculations.
• Improve resilience around database upgrades, component restarts, failure recovery, and batch dependencies.
• Own schema design, staging and temporary-table strategies, indexing, query optimization, data retention, and deployment controls. 
• Establish automated controls for row counts, control totals, duplicates, missing records, financial precision, and source-to-target consistency.
• Build database observability covering job status, execution duration, row counts, reconciliation results, bottlenecks, and failures
• Review designs and code, enforce database engineering standards, mentor team members, and communicate migration risks to technical and business stakeholders.
• Lead analysis and conversion of Oracle stored procedures, PL/SQL, SQL Loader, and database-dependent Perl logic into maintainable Java or database components. 
• Strong understanding of numeric precision, transactional integrity, auditability, and controls for financial data.
• Excellent technical leadership, stakeholder communication, and troubleshooting skills.
