FSO practice provides integrated consulting services to financial institutions and other capital markets participants, including commercial banks, investment banks, broker-dealers, asset managers (traditional and alternative), insurance and energy trading companies, and the Corporate Treasury functions of leading Fortune 500 Companies. Within EY’s Risk Consulting Practice, the Financial Services Risk Management (FSRM) group provides solutions that can help FSO clients to identify, measure, manage and monitor the market (trading book), credit (banking book), operational, and regulatory risks associated with their trading, asset-liability management, capital management and other capital markets activities.

Role Overview

As part of the financial analysis of the bank’s exposures to a diverse range of public, semi‑public, and private counterparties - including local authorities and their affiliates, public institutions, sovereigns, public financial institutions, SPVs, corporates, PPP/concession companies, and sponsors - analysts will support credit‑risk assessments and contribute to internal‑rating activities across France and key international markets (primarily France, Italy, Spain, the UK, and, to a lesser extent, the US).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Support the collection, quality review, and analysis of financial statements and key risk data for relevant counterparties.
  • Assist in the preparation, structuring, and validation of input files and data flows used in rating processes and engines.
  • Contribute to the drafting of financial analysis reports / credit memos, including key drivers, risks/mitigants, and preliminary views on ratings/outlooks, under supervision.
  • Perform controls and reconciliations to ensure data quality, completeness, and consistency prior to processing.
  • For French public sector entities, support data preprocessing and preparation of inputs for mass processing in the rating engine (as applicable).
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to support day-to-day operations and contribute to process improvements and documentation updates.
  • Build, review, and validate financial models with strong command of Excel;
  • Analyze large datasets and generate comparative insights (experience with Power BI/SQL is an advantage).

Domain Skills Required:

  • Conduct in‑depth financial analysis, including detailed review of public‑sector and corporate financial statements (IFRS/French GAAP), ratio assessments (leverage, coverage, liquidity), evaluation of working capital requirements, and comprehensive cash‑flow analysis.
  • Apply project‑finance principles to assess SPV cash‑flow structures, DSCR/LLCR metrics, debt‑sizing considerations, covenant frameworks, reserve mechanisms, security packages, and risk‑allocation structures across concession and PPP projects.
  • Evaluate sovereign and quasi‑sovereign credit risk by analyzing institutional frameworks, governance quality, policy stability, and levels of explicit or implicit government support.
  • Perform corporate and sectoral assessments by analyzing business models, industry dynamics, competitive positioning (utilities, transportation, energy, social infrastructure), and conducting sensitivity and benchmarking analyses across markets.
  • Review and interpret financing documentation, including term sheets, loan documentation, covenant packages, guarantees, and where applicable key provisions within bond indentures.
  • Prepare clear, structured, and analytically sound credit memoranda, including rating recommendations, risk/mitigation assessments, and identification of early‑warning indicators.
  • Support and conduct gap assessments, impact analyses, and business‑readiness evaluations related to regulatory change initiatives.
  • Demonstrate strong technical expertise and up‑to‑date industry knowledge across financial products, market practices, and risk methodologies.
  • Lead key workstreams within large‑scale client engagements or independently manage smaller engagements, ensuring consistent delivery of high‑quality outcomes.
  • Review outputs prepared by team members to ensure analytical quality, completeness, and adherence to internal standards.
  • Stay informed of emerging trends, regulatory changes, and sector‑specific developments to anticipate client needs and strengthen advisory delivery.
  • Monitor project progress, proactively manage risks, and communicate priorities, challenges, and updates effectively to stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide junior consultants, fostering skill development, knowledge sharing, and professional growth within the team.

Qualifications, Certifications and Education

Must-have:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (Finance/Economics) or CA qualification, with 3-8 years of relevant experience in financial analysis or risk‑related roles.
  • Foundational experience (internship/apprenticeship/junior role) in financial analysis, credit risk, audit, or corporate finance.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, core credit risk principles, and familiarity with project finance, corporate, or sovereign risk concepts.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, with foundational knowledge of Power BI and/or SQL considered a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance, and Financial Reporting frameworks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with business and technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated automation and innovation mindset, with willingness to improve processes and tools.
  • Strong command of written and spoken professional English.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly.

Good-to-have:

  • Professional certifications such as FRM, CFA, or PRM.
  • Regulatory exposure or experience in areas such as Credit Underwriting, Basel frameworks, and CCAR.
