Alstom's modern railway fleets are no longer just mechanical systems — they are connected digital platforms. The trains and ground systems continuously communicate in both directions to enable capabilities far beyond simple monitoring. Ground systems can send speed advice to the driver to save energy, wake up trains, check their fitness, push operational configurations, and control on-board systems such as HVAC and lighting remotely. In the most advanced deployments, operators can remotely drive the train to the first station. Because these functions are managed at fleet level, the availability of these ground systems is critical to our customers' daily operations. As a customer-centric services company, Alstom is committed to offering a fully managed service with target SLAs on availability, response, and resolution times.

 

As a strategic initiative, we are building a central L2 support team in Bangalore that will support wayside systems across all global customer projects. The main goal of the team is to diagnose and restore service using runbooks as quickly as possible. For complex issues, the team escalates to the project engineering and solution development teams. The support team monitors application health 24x7 using Dynatrace — detecting and responding to anomalies before they impact the customer.

 

The team is based in Bangalore and operates during standard office hours. To support global customer projects across multiple time zones, a 24x7 on-call rotation is in place for critical incidents outside office hours.

 

As a mid-level engineer, you will work independently on assigned applications and incidents, contributing actively to the team's operational quality under the guidance of the Senior Rail Solution Operations Engineer.

 

Your Role

• Support L2 operational monitoring and incident management for assigned wayside digital railway solutions delivered to our customers
• Investigate and resolve incidents end-to-end using approved runbooks — escalating to the senior engineer or L3 teams with full documentation when resolution is beyond runbook scope
• Monitor application health using Dynatrace — review dashboards daily, respond to alerts, and report anomalies proactively
• Participate in OS patching activities — coordinate scheduling, raise change requests in ServiceNow, and validate application health pre and post patching
• Maintain and update runbooks after every incident where gaps or inaccuracies were identified
• Support new project onboarding — participate in knowledge transfer sessions and shadow operations under guidance of the senior engineer
• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation for critical incidents

 

Our Expectations

Must Have

• Railway domain knowledge with 8+ years of experience across railway systems — e.g. Signalling, TCMS, PIS, CCTV
• Hands-on experience with IT technologies — Linux, TCP/IP, Docker, Database
• Ability to follow and apply systems engineering thinking 
• Experience managing incidents in live operational environments — logging, triaging, resolving, and escalating
  
  

Nice to Have

• Experience with container and cloud technologies — Kubernetes, Azure or AWS
• Python or Bash scripting for operational tasks
• Familiarity with observability tools — Dynatrace, Grafana or equivalent
