CAD Engineer

1. JOB SUMMARY

The CAD Designer creates, develops, and modifies 3D jewellery designs for the company’s gold jewellery manufacturing operations. The role converts sketches, customer references, and market trends into accurate, production-ready CAD models, and supports casting, 3D printing, stone setting, and finishing departments so that designs are made on time, within the planned gold weight, and to the required quality.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Jewellery Design and 3D Modelling

•     Create 3D CAD models of rings, necklaces, earrings, bangles, pendants, chains, and temple and antique jewellery from sketches, photographs, or customer requirements.

•     Develop new collections and design variations in line with market trends, festival and bridal demand, and customer requests.

•     Modify existing designs for size, weight, stone settings, and style as requested by sales or management.

B. Technical Specification and Production Readiness

•     Prepare models with correct metal thickness, prong and bezel details, stone seats, shrinkage allowance, and ring or bangle sizes for casting and finishing.

•     Calculate and confirm the estimated gold weight and stone count for each design, and keep it within the approved weight limit.

•     Check designs for strength, wearability, and manufacturing feasibility before release.

C. 3D Printing, Casting, and Production Support

•     Prepare print-ready files (STL and similar formats), orientation, and supports for 3D wax or resin printing and coordinate with the printing and casting team.

•     Review printed wax or resin models and cast pieces; correct design faults and report recurring production problems.

•     Coordinate with the filing, stone setting, and polishing sections to resolve design-related queries on the shop floor.

D. Rendering and Customer Approval

•     Prepare realistic renders, images, and design sheets for customer, sales team, and management approval.

•     Incorporate feedback and complete revisions within the agreed timeline.

E. Design Library and File Management

•     Maintain an organised library of CAD files with design code, version, weight, and approval status.

•     Take regular backups of design files and restrict access to authorised persons only.

•     Keep records of design requests, revisions, and delivery dates.

F. Confidentiality and Intellectual Property

•     Protect company designs, customer designs, and production data; do not copy, share, or take designs outside the company without written approval.

•     Use only licensed CAD software and follow company policies on data security and passwords.

3. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

•     Diploma or degree in Jewellery Design, Fine Arts, Design, or Engineering; or a recognised CAD jewellery design course.

•     Certification in jewellery CAD software will be an added advantage.

4. EXPERIENCE

•     Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a jewellery CAD designer in a gold jewellery manufacturing or similar setup.

•     Experience in gold and diamond jewellery and traditional Indian designs is preferred.

•     Hands-on experience with casting-ready modelling, 3D printing files, and weight estimation is desirable.

5. REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

•     Jewellery CAD software such as Rhino with Matrix or RhinoGold, JewelCAD, or similar; ZBrush for organic and sculpted designs is an advantage.

•     Strong knowledge of jewellery construction: settings (prong, bezel, channel, pavé), clasps, hinges, joints, and chain structures.

•     Understanding of the casting process, shrinkage, metal thickness, and finishing requirements.

•     Knowledge of 3D printing file preparation and rendering software such as KeyShot is an advantage.

•     Basic knowledge of gold purity, stone sizes, and weight calculation; hand-sketching ability is an advantage.

7. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

•     Number of designs completed on time, and turnaround time for new and modified designs.

•     Accuracy of weight estimate and dimensions against the finished piece; low rework and casting rejection due to design faults.

•     Customer and management approval rate of designs and renders.

•     Proper filing, version control, and backup of CAD files; compliance with confidentiality rules.

8. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

•     Follow company rules, workplace discipline, and applicable safety procedures.

•     Maintain confidentiality of all company and customer information.

•     Perform other design-related duties assigned by the reporting manager.
