Network Systems Developer
As a Network Monitoring & Observability Engineer, you will be responsible for administering network monitoring platforms, defining monitoring standards, and automating observability solutions. You will support both current and future monitoring technologies while ensuring operational reliability and meaningful visibility into network performance, availability, and health.
This role requires a strong understanding of network monitoring principles, enterprise networking, Linux administration, and Python-based automation.
Network Management System Administration
- Administer enterprise monitoring platforms such as SevOne, Netcool, ThousandEyes, ScienceLogic, Selector.ai, LogicMonitor, and Prometheus.
- Manage platform installations, upgrades, patching, maintenance, and lifecycle activities.
- Monitor system health, capacity, and platform performance.
Monitoring Strategy & Standards
- Design and maintain monitoring standards and templates.
- Define key performance indicators and alerting thresholds for routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and other network infrastructure.
- Implement baselining and anomaly detection strategies.
Linux Platform Administration
- Manage Linux servers supporting monitoring platforms.
- Maintain operating systems, file systems, databases, security configurations, and scheduled jobs.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure issues impacting monitoring services.
Automation & Integration
- Develop Python scripts to automate device onboarding, reporting, and platform integrations.
- Integrate monitoring platforms using REST APIs and automation workflows.
- Improve operational efficiency through automation and self-service capabilities.
Configuration & Version Management
- Use Git for version control of scripts, configuration files, and automation artifacts.
- Maintain documentation and change history for production configurations.
Data Collection & Telemetry
- Configure and optimize Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Syslog, NetFlow, sFlow, IP Flow Information Export (IPFIX), and streaming telemetry.
- Ensure reliable collection, storage, and analysis of monitoring data.
Required Qualifications
Network Monitoring & Observability
- Strong understanding of network monitoring principles including polling intervals, retention policies, baselining, and anomaly detection.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise monitoring platforms.
- Strong knowledge of SNMP, including MIBs, OIDs, notifications, and security models.
- Experience implementing traffic-flow monitoring using NetFlow, sFlow, or IPFIX.
Networking Fundamentals
- CCNA-level understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts.
- Knowledge of latency, packet loss, jitter, routing, and subnetting.
- Understanding of routing protocols and network health indicators, including BGP and OSPF.
- Ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues involving firewalls, ACLs, and routing.
Linux Administration
- Experience administering Linux systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, or Ubuntu.
- Familiarity with log analysis, system performance troubleshooting, and database fundamentals.
Automation & Development
- Proficiency in Python scripting.
- Experience consuming and integrating REST APIs.
- Experience using Git and modern version-control workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience migrating between network monitoring or observability platforms.
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar observability solutions.
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Experience with time-series databases and telemetry architectures.
- Exposure to cloud-based network monitoring solutions.
