Title and Summary
Manager, Risk ManagementMastercard’s Customer Risk Management (CRM) team plays a critical role in safeguarding the integrity and resilience of the global payments ecosystem. CRM, which manages Mastercard’s credit and counterparty risk management activities, is responsible for managing approximately USD 75 billion in customer credit exposure globally, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and mitigated in support of Mastercard’s continued growth and innovation.We are seeking a Manager, Customer Credit Risk Management to join our Asia Pacific team based in Gurgaon. This role focuses on assessing and managing credit and counterparty risk across a diverse portfolio of participants within Mastercard’s network, including banks, non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), fintechs, payment companies, issuers, acquirers, and other players in the payment ecosystem. The role will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and monitoring credit risk for assigned markets in accordance with Mastercard’s policies and procedures, including the CRM Procedures of the Credit Risk Policy.
The role offers significant exposure to senior stakeholders across Risk, Finance, Franchise, Product, and business development functions, as well as opportunities to influence key business decisions and strategic initiatives across Asia Pacific.

Role Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that customer and counterparty risks within assigned markets are appropriately identified, assessed, monitored, and mitigated in accordance with Mastercard’s risk appetite, policies, and procedures.
This role requires strong technical knowledge of credit analysis/underwriting, along with familiarity with Mastercard’s business model. Knowledge and experience in the payments industry will be an added advantage.
Key responsibilities include:
• Conduct comprehensive credit assessments and ongoing monitoring of financial institutions, NBFIs, fintechs, payment companies, and other counterparties across Asia Pacific.
• Analyze financial statements, regulatory filings, capital adequacy, liquidity, profitability, cash flow, and business risk factors to evaluate creditworthiness.
• Recommend internal risk ratings, exposure limits, and risk mitigation strategies in line with Mastercard’s risk management framework.
• Monitor portfolio-level and counterparty-specific risk exposures, identifying emerging risks and recommending appropriate actions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for customer-specific credit and counterparty risk matters within assigned markets.
• Partner closely with Account Management, Franchise, Product, Finance, and Legal teams to support customer growth initiatives while maintaining prudent risk controls.
• Support customer onboarding activities by ensuring Customer Risk Management requirements are met and customer activations are completed efficiently.
• Develop and implement alternative risk mitigation solutions, including collateral and other credit enhancement structures where appropriate.
• Perform portfolio reviews, trend analysis, and stress assessments to evaluate concentrations, emerging risks, and changing market conditions.
• Support strategic initiatives requiring credit risk analytics, exposure monitoring, portfolio insights, and risk assessments.
• Contribute to the enhancement of risk frameworks, policies, methodologies, monitoring tools, and operational processes.
• Partner with global CRM teams on risk data governance, customer exposure monitoring enhancements, and system testing activities.
• Prepare internal and external risk reporting, including governance materials, audit-related reporting, regulatory submissions, and ad hoc management requests.
• Share best practices and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the global Customer Risk Management organization.

About You
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• 4+ years of experience in Credit Risk, Counterparty Risk, Credit Underwriting, Financial Institutions (FIG) Credit, Corporate Banking Credit, Portfolio Management, Treasury Credit Risk, or a related field.
• Strong experience conducting fundamental credit analysis and financial statement analysis.
• Experience assessing banks, non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), fintechs, payment companies, insurance companies, asset managers, or other financial services organizations.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate credit risks and formulate sound risk recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present risk assessments and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to effectively partner with cross-functional teams.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge and experience of working in the payment industry
• Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, CPA, or equivalent qualifications are advantageous.
