Civil Engineer – Roles & Responsibilities (Residential Township Development)
Road Work All road development works including earthwork excavation, filling and compaction, subgrade preparation, Granular Sub Base (GSB), Wet Mix Macadam (WMM), kerb stone installation, PCC works, asphalt or paver block laying, footpaths, road camber, road levels, road signage, speed breakers, road markings, expansion joints, and final finishing, while ensuring proper compaction, alignment, levels, and material consumption.
Storm water drainage works including excavation, PCC bedding, drain construction, catch pits, road gullies, chamber construction, cover slabs, outfall connections, slope verification, water flow testing, and ensuring efficient drainage throughout the project.
Complete water supply network including borewell connections, underground water tanks, pumping systems, HDPE, DI or UPVC pipelines, valve chambers, pressure testing, leakage testing, flushing of pipelines, water meter chambers, and commissioning of the entire water distribution system.
Sewerage and plumbing infrastructure works including Sewerage Treatment Plant, excavation, bedding preparation, sewer pipeline laying, joint inspections, manhole construction, inspection chambers, drop manholes, invert level verification, hydraulic testing, backfilling, rainwater harvesting pipelines, rainwater drains, plumbing coordination, pump installations, valve installations, testing, and commissioning.
Electrical Engineer and electrical contractors for all civil works related to underground conduits, cable trenches, electrical pole foundations, street lighting foundations, junction boxes, transformer foundations, DG foundations, earthing pits, electrical rooms, utility crossings, and all other civil activities associated with electrical infrastructure.
Landscape-related civil works including planter construction, tree pits, retaining walls, irrigation pipe trenches, pathways, seating areas, fountains, water bodies, boundary plantations, kerb edging, decorative paving, and other hardscape developments as per the approved landscape drawings.
Boundary Walls Boundary walls, entrance gates, security cabins, retaining walls, compound walls, masonry works, RCC works, plastering, coping, painting coordination, and all associated external development works.
Strict quality control by inspecting all incoming materials including cement, steel, sand, aggregates, bricks, pipes, kerb stones, pavers, manhole covers, and other construction materials, conducting field quality checks, cube tests, slump tests, compaction tests, and maintaining all quality inspection records, testing reports, and approval registers.
Verification shall verify all material receipts, delivery challans, stock registers, daily consumption reports, wastage reports, material reconciliation statements, and coordinate with the procurement and store departments to ensure uninterrupted availability of construction materials while minimizing wastage and controlling project costs.
Measurements Maintain the Measurement Book (MB), conduct joint measurements with contractors, verify BOQ quantities, certify contractor bills, evaluate extra items, prepare rate analysis wherever required, and ensure accurate billing based on actual executed quantities.
Coordination. Architect, Structural Consultant, MEP Consultant, Landscape Consultant, Project Coordinator, Procurement Department, Store Department, Accounts Department, contractors, vendors, testing agencies, utility providers, and statutory authorities to ensure smooth execution of the project and timely resolution of technical issues.
Documentation Project documentation including Daily Progress Reports (DPR), labour deployment reports, machinery utilization reports, material consumption reports, concrete registers, cube test registers, quality inspection reports, drawing registers, revision registers, site instruction registers, Request for Information (RFI) registers, Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), contractor progress reports, hindrance registers, delay registers, photographic records, weekly progress reports, and monthly progress reports.
Planning The Civil Engineer shall be responsible for planning weekly and monthly work schedules, preparing recovery plans in case of delays, forecasting manpower, machinery, and material requirements, monitoring project progress against planned targets, and ensuring completion of works within the approved timelines and budget.
Testing and Commission Should participate testing, commissioning, snag identification, defect rectification, preparation of punch lists, verification of as-built drawings, final inspections, contractor close-out activities, and handover of completed infrastructure to the management.
He shall be responsible for all activities related to civil engineering, infrastructure development, project coordination, quality assurance, contractor management, technical inspections, cost control, documentation, statutory compliance, and site administration as assigned by the Project Manager or Management from time to time to ensure the successful development and completion of the Project and deliverables.
