SourceCAD.com is an Autodesk Authorized Learning Partner and one of the most-followed CAD and AEC training platforms in the world — over 120,000 students across 140+ countries and ~400,000 YouTube subscribers. We teach AutoCAD, Revit, Fusion 360, FreeCAD and more to engineers, architects, and designers who need skills they can use on Monday morning.

We run our own learning platform: a custom Node.js LMS with a Next.js student website and a React admin panel, integrated with Stripe, Razorpay, VdoCipher, Loops.so, and a self-hosted n8n automation layer. It was built with an external development partner. We're now bringing engineering in-house, and you'll be the person who owns it.

The role

You'll be our first in-house developer, working directly with the founder. Your job is to take over maintenance and feature development of the SourceCAD platform from our development partner over the next six months (they stay on retainer to support the transition), and then own it.

This is a high-ownership role on a small, fast-moving team. You'll be the engineer in the room — diagnosing a payment webhook failure in the morning, shipping a new onboarding step in the afternoon, and deciding how to do both properly.

What you'll do

• Maintain and improve the SourceCAD platform across its three surfaces: the Node.js/Express API, the Next.js student website, and the React admin panel

• Own production: deployments (PM2), error triage (Sentry), background jobs (BullMQ/Redis), scheduled tasks, and incident response

• Build new features end to end — onboarding and paywall flows, course delivery, progress tracking, certificates, admin reporting, promotional/pricing logic

• Look after payments: Stripe, Razorpay and PayPal subscriptions, webhooks, trial and renewal logic, failed-payment handling

• Integrate and automate: Loops.so email, VdoCipher video, Firebase push, Elasticsearch search, OpenAI-powered features, and our n8n workflows

• Document as you go — architecture notes, runbooks, and PR descriptions that let the next person (or the founder) understand the system

• Work with our development partner during the handover: absorb their knowledge, review their changes, and gradually take over their responsibilities

• Improve the platform's health — performance, security, test coverage, and dependency hygiene — without rewriting what works

• Around the platform: VdoCipher, Cloudflare, Loops.so, n8n, Discourse, GitHub

What we're looking for

You need:

• 4+ years building and operating web applications, with at least 2 years on a production Node.js backend you were responsible for keeping up

• Strong Express + PostgreSQL skills, including an ORM (Sequelize preferred), migrations, and query performance

• React proficiency with Material UI, and experience with Next.js (App Router) and/or Vite SPAs

• Hands-on payment gateway integration — Stripe webhooks and subscription lifecycle at minimum; Razorpay a strong plus

• Experience with Redis and a job queue (BullMQ or similar)

• Comfort inheriting and reading an unfamiliar codebase — most of your first quarter is understanding what's already there

• Solid Git workflow, staging/production discipline, and the ability to roll back cleanly

• Clear written communication in English

Nice to have:

• Auth0 or other OAuth/OIDC providers

• Socket.IO or other real-time systems

• Elasticsearch / OpenSearch

• Video platforms (VdoCipher, Mux, Vimeo) or DRM/HLS concepts

• Transactional + marketing email tooling (Loops.so, Customer.io, Brevo)

• n8n, Zapier, or other automation platforms

• TypeScript

• Previous work on an LMS, course platform, or subscription SaaS

• Daily use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to move faster without cutting corners

You'll thrive here if you:

• Like owning things end to end and don't need a ticket queue to know what matters

• Prefer fixing and improving a working system over rebuilding it

• Are comfortable being the only engineer, and know when to ask for help

• Care about the people on the other side of the screen — our students are working professionals who trust us with their careers

Your first six months

• Month 1: Set up, read the codebase, document the architecture, shadow our development partner on every fix

• Months 2–3: Own bug fixes, admin and content changes, and small improvements; ship your first self-contained feature

• Months 4–6: Take over payments, infrastructure, and production on-call; development partner moves to backup-only
