Welding Specialist (Valve Industry)

We are looking for an experienced Welding Specialist from the industrial valve manufacturing industry to provide technical leadership across all product groups. The role will be responsible for welding process development, metallurgy, heat treatment, NDT, hardfacing, welding automation, supplier qualification, and quality improvement for critical valve products manufactured to ASME, API, PED and customer specifications.

The specialist will work closely with Design, Production, Quality, SCM and Sales to standardize special processes and support new product development across Ball, Butterfly, Gate, Globe and Check Valve product lines.

  • Develop, qualify and standardize WPS, PQR and WPQ in accordance with ASME Section IX and EN ISO 15614.

  • Establish welding procedures for fabrication, repair welding, hardfacing and corrosion-resistant cladding.

  • Lead the development of welding SPMs, fixtures, clamping systems and welding automation solutions.

  • Resolve welding metallurgy issues involving carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, nickel and alloy steels.

  • Validate welding, heat treatment and NDT processes for API, PED and customer approvals.

  • Provide welding engineering support acrossButterfly, Triple Offset Butterfly, Gate, Globe, Check, Floating Ball and Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves.

  • Support welded construction and special process requirements across all valve product groups.

  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing and Quality teams during new product development and process optimization.

  • Define PWHT, solution annealing and stress-relieving requirements for various valve materials.

  • Review heat treatment, hardness, PMI and NDT reports against customer specifications and ITPs.

  • Oversee VT, PT, MT, RT and UT activities in compliance with ASNT Level II practices.

  • Investigate welding defects and establish repair methodologies for castings, forgings, plates, pipes and fabricated components.

  • Monitor FPYR, COPQ and welding rejection trends and drive improvement initiatives.

  • Lead root cause analysis using 8D, DMAIC, 5 Why, FMEA, CAPA and A3 methodologies.

  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and continuous improvement projects across the shop floor.

  • Support APQP and PPAP activities for new product introduction and process validation.

  • Qualify and develop suppliers for welding, heat treatment, coating and NDT processes.

  • Conduct supplier process audits and technical evaluations.

  • Support customer and certification audits including Aramco, ADNOC, Saipem, API and PED.

  • Ensure compliance with API Spec Q1, ISO 9001, PED and customer-specific quality requirements.

  • Conduct technical training programs for welders, NDT personnel and shop supervisors.

  • Maintain welder qualification, continuity records and competency matrices.

  • Develop and standardize SOPs, ITPs, welding procedures and special process documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering.

  • 12–15 years of experience in industrial valve manufacturing.

  • Proven expertise in welding engineering, metallurgy, heat treatment and NDT.

  • Certified Welding Inspector (AWS/CWI or equivalent) preferred.

  • ASNT Level II certification in VT, PT, MT, RT and UT preferred.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt will be an added advantage.

  • Strong working knowledge of ASME, API, PED and EN welding standards.
