Associate General Manager - Environment
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and statutory requirements issued by MoEF & CC, CPCB, SPCB, and other regulatory authorities.
- Monitor adherence to Consent to Operate (CTO), Consent to Establish (CTE), Environmental Clearance (EC), and other statutory conditions.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies for inspections, audits, approvals, and compliance submissions.
- Track changes in environmental legislation and ensure timely implementation within the plant.
- Oversee ambient air quality, stack emission, water quality, noise monitoring, and other environmental monitoring activities.
- Ensure accurate submission of environmental compliance reports to statutory authorities.
- Monitor performance of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and Continuous Effluent Quality Monitoring Systems (CEQMS).
- Analyze environmental performance indicators and recommend corrective measures.
- Lead fly ash utilization initiatives and ensure compliance with Fly Ash Notification requirements.
- Oversee hazardous waste management, solid waste disposal, and utilization processes.
- Drive water conservation, wastewater treatment, and zero-liquid discharge initiatives wherever applicable.
- Monitor resource utilization and implement measures for environmental sustainability.
- Establish and maintain ISO 14001 Environmental Management System requirements.
- Conduct environmental risk assessments and compliance audits.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions based on audit observations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental performance.
- Support implementation of ESG and sustainability goals across the plant.
- Promote initiatives for reducing emissions, carbon footprint, water consumption, and waste generation.
- Develop and execute environmental improvement projects aligned with organizational sustainability objectives.
- Liaise with government authorities, regulatory bodies, consultants, and external agencies on environmental matters.
- Coordinate with internal departments including Operations, O&M, Ash Management, Safety, and CSR teams.
- Support management during environmental audits, reviews, and compliance presentations.
- Lead and mentor the environment team.
- Build environmental awareness across plant personnel through training and engagement programs.
- Ensure competency development and succession planning within the function.
Qualifications
Educational Qualification:
MBA in Sustainability and Environment/ Postgraduate degree in Sustainability or related field.
Work Experience (Range of years):
A minimum of 15 years of experience in sustainability management.
Preferred Industry:
Experience in the Power and Utilities sector with knowledge of SEBI and GRI standards, along with a strong understanding of sustainability frameworks, regulations, and industry best practices.
