Job Description
The Charitable Pharmacy Dispensing Chemist (Pharmacist) plays a pivotal role in bridging the healthcare gap for vulnerable, low-income, and uninsured populations. Unlike traditional commercial retail setups, this position focuses heavily on compassionate patient care, community advocacy, and navigating specialized drug repository and donation programs. The ideal candidate combines strong pharmacological expertise with a passion for public health, ensuring that patients receive life-saving medications safely, regardless of their ability to pay.
Key Responsibilities
- Medication Dispensing & Safety: Review, verify, and fill prescriptions written by healthcare providers, ensuring accurate dosages, no adverse drug interactions, and strict compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Patient Counseling & Clinical Care: Provide comprehensive medication therapy management (MTM) and education. Counsel patients with chronic illnesses on lifestyle modifications, potential side effects, and proper adherence strategies.
- Donation & Inventory Management: Oversee the procurement, tracking, and evaluation of donated medications from drug repository programs, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and partner health systems. Maintain a zero-variance inventory system for restricted or heavy medications.
- Patient Eligibility Assessment: Collaborate with case managers and social workers to verify patient income and eligibility criteria for free or heavily subsidized medication programs.
- Regulatory & Legal Compliance: Ensure the pharmacy strictly adheres to state and federal regulations, Good Dispensing Practices (GDP), and proper medical waste disposal laws.
- Community Advocacy: Support and participate in public health initiatives, community health screenings, and immunization clinics organized by the non-profit.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma in Pharmacy ,Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Master of Pharmacy (MPharm), or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: A valid, active practicing license registered with the Punjab state Pharmacy Council.
- Experience: Prior experience in community pharmacy, public health, or hospital environments is preferred. Experience working with low-income or multicultural populations is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Pharmacy Management Information Systems (e.g., MediTech, Mediware, or specific repository tracking software) and standard MS Office applications.
- Soft Skills: High level of empathy, active listening, and conflict de-escalation skills. Strong organizational abilities to handle a lean, donation-dependent operation
