Position: Chief Accountant
Department: Accounts & Finance
Reporting To: Managing Director
Location: Andheri East, Mumbai
Role Overview:
Saraf Corporation is looking for an experienced and highly responsible Chief Accountant to lead the company’s accounting and finance function.
This is a senior, hands-on role requiring someone who can go beyond routine accounting and actively support the Managing Director in important financial decisions, major payments, financial planning, cash-flow management and large financial processes.
The ideal candidate should have strong command over Tally Prime, be capable of leading a team of junior and senior accountants, and have the maturity to work in a fast-paced environment where responsibilities and challenges may continuously increase.
- Key ResponsibilitiesLead and supervise the entire Accounts & Finance team, including junior and senior accountants.
- Work closely with the Managing Director on important financial decisions and financial planning.
- Assist management in evaluating major expenditures, payments, investments and financial commitments.
- Oversee cash-flow planning and ensure availability of funds for operational and project requirements.
- Plan and coordinate large-value vendor payments and other major financial transactions.
- Maintain complete control over company accounting through Tally Prime and ensure books are accurate and regularly updated.
- Review ledgers, vouchers, journal entries, bank entries, purchase entries, sales entries and reconciliations.
- Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable and ensure timely follow-up.
- Review bank reconciliations and monitor company bank balances and transactions.
- Prepare and review MIS reports, cash-flow statements, ageing reports, profitability reports and other management reports.
- Assist the MD with financial analysis, cost comparisons, budgeting and decision-making.
- Monitor project-wise and department-wise expenses and highlight unusual or excessive expenditure.
- Ensure proper financial controls, approval processes and documentation are followed throughout the company.
- Coordinate with auditors, Chartered Accountants, banks, consultants and government authorities whenever required.
- Oversee GST, TDS, income-tax-related accounting, statutory payments and compliance coordination.
- Support finalisation of accounts, audits and preparation of financial statements.
- Review the work of the accounting team and ensure accuracy before information is presented to management.
- Identify weaknesses in existing accounting processes and implement better systems and controls.
- Train and guide junior and senior accounting staff and ensure accountability within the department.
- Take ownership of new financial assignments and challenges as the organisation grows.
Required Skills & Competencies:
Tally Prime Expertise:
Advanced practical knowledge of Tally Prime is mandatory. The candidate should be capable of supervising, reviewing and correcting accounting work performed by the team.
Financial Decision-Making:
Strong commercial and financial understanding with the ability to analyse financial information and advise senior management.
Leadership:
Ability to manage, guide and hold accountable a team consisting of both junior and senior accountants.
Ownership & Accountability:
Should take complete responsibility for the Accounts & Finance function and follow matters through to completion.
Problem-Solving:
Should approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset and be willing to take on responsibilities beyond routine accounting work.
Adaptability:
Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced organisation where priorities and responsibilities may change.
Feedback & Professional Maturity:
Must be receptive to constructive criticism and management feedback and demonstrate the ability to make improvements quickly.
Attention to Detail:
Strong ability to identify accounting discrepancies, documentation gaps and financial risks.
Confidentiality:
Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding company finances, salaries, banking information and management decisions.
- Qualification & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- CA Inter / CMA Inter / MBA Finance or similar professional qualification would be preferred.
- Approximately 8–15 years of relevant accounting and finance experience, preferably with experience managing an accounting team.
- Strong practical experience with Tally Prime is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of GST, TDS, taxation, audits, banking, accounting controls and financial reporting.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Experience working directly with promoters, directors, CFOs or senior management would be strongly preferred.
