Senior Diabetes Educator – GLP-1 & Metabolic Health
Experience: 1–6+ years

Reporting To: Functionally – Doctor, Operationally – Clinical Program Head
About the Role We are looking for an experienced and clinically strong Senior Diabetes Educator / Diabetes & GLP-1 Therapy Counsellor who can provide high-quality diabetes education, lifestyle counselling and therapy-support services to patients with Type 2 Diabetes and related metabolic conditions.
The ideal candidate should have 5–6+ years of hands-on experience in diabetes management, with exposure to both hospital-based clinical settings and independent patient consultations.
A key requirement is strong understanding of GLP-1–based therapies and their appropriate use in eligible patients. The candidate should be comfortable discussing GLP-1 therapy with patients, explaining benefits, risks, expectations, administration, adherence requirements and lifestyle considerations, while working strictly within clinical protocols and applicable prescribing requirements.
Key Responsibilities 1. Diabetes Patient Assessment & Education • Conduct structured diabetes education and counselling sessions for patients with Type 2 Diabetes and metabolic health concerns.
• Understand the patient's diabetes history, treatment journey, lifestyle, dietary habits, physical activity, medication adherence and barriers to treatment.
• Educate patients about diabetes, insulin resistance, HbA1c, blood glucose targets, hypoglycaemia/hyperglycaemia, complications, medication adherence, nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress and behavioural factors.
• Translate complex clinical information into simple, patient-friendly language.
• Develop personalised education plans based on individual patient needs.
2. GLP-1 Therapy Counselling • Identify patients who may potentially benefit from discussing GLP-1-based therapy, based on established clinical criteria and program protocols.
• Educate eligible patients about the role of GLP-1 therapy as part of an overall diabetes/weight-management strategy.
• Explain mechanism of action at an appropriate patient-friendly level, expected benefits, treatment expectations, common adverse effects, contraindications and precautions, dose-escalation concepts, administration, adherence and lifestyle modification.
• Address patient concerns, misconceptions and fears around injectable therapies.
• Counsel patients on managing common treatment-related issues and appropriately escalate concerns to the treating physician.
• Support patients in making informed decisions in consultation with their treating physician.
• Identify patients requiring physician review rather than independently diagnosing, prescribing or modifying treatment.
• Follow approved clinical protocols, medical governance requirements and applicable regulations. 3. Hospital & Clinical Experience
• Work closely with physicians, endocrinologists, diabetologists, nurses, dietitians and other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in multidisciplinary patient-management discussions where required.
• Understand hospital workflows, clinical documentation and patient referral pathways.
• Coordinate patient education before and after physician consultations.
• Ensure appropriate escalation of clinical red flags to the treating physician.
4. Independent Consultation • Conduct one-to-one patient consultations independently, face-to-face or virtually.
• Conduct structured consultations and establish patient rapport quickly.
• Understand patient motivation and readiness to change.
• Identify barriers to medication and lifestyle adherence.
• Create actionable patient goals.
• Conduct follow-ups and track progress.
• Maintain accurate consultation records.
5. Patient Engagement & Behaviour Change • Motivate patients to make sustainable lifestyle changes rather than providing generic advice.
• Use motivational interviewing and behaviour-change techniques.
• Address emotional, behavioural and social barriers affecting diabetes management.
• Improve patient confidence and self-management capability.
• Encourage regular monitoring of relevant health parameters.
• Proactively identify patients at risk of disengagement.
6. Digital / Virtual Diabetes Care • Conduct video/audio consultations.
• Use digital patient-management platforms.
• Review patient-reported data and health metrics.
• Conduct virtual follow-ups.
• Communicate with patients through approved digital channels.
• Maintain digital documentation.
• Work with technology-enabled diabetes-management programs.
• Collaborate with care managers, dietitians, physicians and technology teams.
7. Patient Journey & Program Management • Support patients through the complete diabetes-care journey.
• Ensure patients understand their treatment and care plan.
• Follow up at predefined intervals.
• Monitor adherence, engagement and progress.
• Identify patients requiring clinical escalation.
• Ensure timely referral to physicians or specialists.
• Contribute to patient retention and program outcomes.
8. Documentation & Compliance • Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
• Document counselling sessions, interventions and follow-ups.
• Follow clinical SOPs and patient-safety protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Report adverse events or safety concerns through defined processes.
• Follow medical, ethical and regulatory standards.
Candidate Profile Essential Qualifications • Bachelor's / Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Diabetes Education, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences or a relevant healthcare discipline.
• Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) or equivalent diabetes-management certification preferred.
• Additional certification in diabetes care, obesity management, metabolic health or GLP-1 therapy is an advantage.

GLP-1 Knowledge – Critical Requirement The candidate should have a strong understanding of the current GLP-1/incretin therapy landscape, including familiarity with commonly used therapies such as semaglutide, tirzepatide, liraglutide and other relevant GLP-1 / GIP-GLP-1 therapies.
They should understand patient selection, contraindications and precautions, adverse-event monitoring, gastrointestinal side effects, adherence, dose-titration concepts, lifestyle intervention, treatment expectations, physician involvement and long-term treatment considerations.
